It's going to be a wet holiday weekend for the state.

This is about three weeks now of rain during what usually is a very dry month.

last year, i did the responsible thing and bought a generator. I'm feeling pretty confident for this season.

There is nothing funny about what hurricanes can do and what terrible things did happen last year.

But...

After spending 25+ years growing up in Florida and experiencing plenty of hurricane seasons I did get a kick out of the mad panic here in Dallas last year where basically nothing happened. Due to what was happening around Houston, people were convinced that Dallas was next in line and the same storm with the same force was coming any day. I tried to explain that isn’t how storms work. But it was as if a Zombie Apocolypse was upon us.

I’m sure if Orlando ever got a few really good inches of snow / ice it would be the same.

get it out now and make sure it works, especially if it wasnt stored properly (we drain the fuel tanks and then run them until they stall out so there is no fuel in the carb to mess it up). When a storm gets close you'll never be able to get it repaired in time if anything is wrong

We've got our generators and the houses are set up to back feed the house via a plug at the circuit breaker. We're also getting those metal clips to insert the plywood into the window opening without needing screws/anchors

what are the metal clips you're talking about? My home was built in 2013 and doesn't have the built in shutter screws, but my sister's home, built the same year, has them. I was jealous last year, and would LOVE a way to get them added without damaging our home.

Except, if that ever did happen, there is documented evidence that it would indeed be apocalyptic .

The metal clips attach to pieces of plywood on an angle so they bite into the window frame a bit. Supposed to be good to 150mph. I haven’t tested them yet. Supposedly you can work one of the 4 per window off and the board will pull right off. They’re around $30 for 20 of em

I have a stucco home with recessed windows so they work great. Very secure as well and sort of easy to remove.

Cool, was afraid they’d be a pain in the ass and tear up the opening. Ours are recessed and stucco as well

They do leave a small amount of scrape when dislodging, but not very noticeable.
