In February, The Ringer received an anonymous tip that Bryan Colangelo, the Philadelphia 76ers’ president of basketball operations, had been secretly operating five Twitter accounts. Since then, we have scrutinized and archived those accounts in an attempt to verify the source’s claims that the longtime NBA executive has been using them as a platform to:

Criticize NBA players, including Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens NoelPublicly debate the decisions of his own coaching staff, as well as critique former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie and Toronto Raptors president Masai UjiriTelegraph the 2017 trade in which the Sixers acquired the no. 1 overall pick that would become Markelle FultzDisclose nonpublic medical information about Okafor and gossip about Embiid and Fultz to members of the national and Philadelphia media

Our source, whose identity is still unknown, contacted me via anonymous “egg” accounts on both Instagram and Twitter, claiming that they had a scoop. The source explained that they worked in artificial intelligence and used an open-source data analysis tool to link five accounts

This is one of the weirdest stories I've ever read. I don't know how he keeps his job, whether the hypothesis is proven true or not.

It's just a hoax.

This is so bad. I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

Maybe it's just because I don't like Bryan Colangelo and always thought he was terrible and a fraud, but I believe it. I don't know how league executives can back him and not be skeptical (maybe because they all have their own skeletons they want left alone?). The evidence is pretty compelling, in my opinion.

Millionaire with too much free time, inadequate professional qualification and for whole life he lives in shodow of his father.

Sadly i think lot of executives actually do read forums and make their moves to please fanbase.

I’m afraid Colangelo has always come across a little as someone who is desperate to justify his role/job (wherever he was) because of how he got his start in the league.

This twitter business just seems an extension of that.

very hard to believe these accounts are not linked to BC. Especially when he admitted to using at least one of them. What an idiot.

The minute he took over for Hinkie, the sixers went downhill. Yeah, they won games this year (with Hinkies draft picks) but BC immediately got there and wasted Hinkie’s assets to trade up for Fultz while Ainge took the asset plus Tatum. BC is a hack and has always been a hack.

The funniest element of the article is the journalist contacting the Sixers about one of the accounts to test the waters. The other accounts were then immediately all made private.

Surely it would have been better to just have them tweet random stuff to throw people off the scent.

The 76ers players should either want Colangelo gone or trade me.
