I don't think Lebron is staying in Cleveland anymore, but we shall see.

This is the only way to convince LBJ to stay. Let Orlando magic absorb garbage contracts and bail the Cavs out.

They are tied up to so many bad contracts, sending Vuc, T Ross, Mack to get rid of Tristan and JR Smith and George Hill will be good for them.

They can stick Evan Fournier at the PG, LBJ is the true PG on that team anyway, he is a much much better upgrade over G HIll.

Jonathan Simmons was a player LBJ coveted, LBJ just needs to wait for a year to get free agent help.

Wait. Isn't he already signed to China or something? The fascination with certain players on this board is just hilarious. I mean I was pulling for the guy but he failed on two different teams. Even on a team that utterly sucked. Can't see him succeeding elsewhere but overseas.

I doubt Cleveland does that and I am not interested in Porter Jr. for us and am certainly not passing up Young at 6 for him. As magic fans I think we have to realize that we are not getting another lottery pick.

I don't mind the idea of a George Hill move to Orlando. This team does need to establish some veteran presence on the floor

I don't think MPJr can play SG, if I was going to do this deal it would be to draft Mikel Bridges. My personal ideal summer would be for Doncic to drop to 6, make a trade you like proposed (except no 2019 pick) and take Young at 8. Young/Doncic/Isaac/Gordon/Thompson

In your scenario, even though you don’t have it marked, you have the Cavs essentially giving up the 8th overall pick for the sole purpose of cleaning up their cap situation in a year? And a 2019 first on top of that

There’s a less than zero percent chance they’d do that.

What I know about Gilbert and LeBron both is that they’re definitely interested in moving that 8th pick, but for a win now move that possibly/likely includes taking on bad future salary, certainly not future cap relief.

As long as LeBron is there, they’re in the business of kicking the cap relief can down the road. What’s right in front of them is the only thing that matters.

While I agree with you the 8th pick isn't getting a 'win now' player, it'll get a collection of starters which we can offer, who is really available who adds to the Cavaliers for the 8th pick. I would offer the following

Orlando sends: Fournier, Vucevic, Ross, Augustine, Simmons, Mack, 2018, 2 x 2018 2nd round picks, OKC 2020 pick

Cleveland sends: Hill, Thompson, Smith, Clarkson, Korver, Zizic, 2018 #8

As the original poster suggested that is a lot of cap space, it's also in most situations an upgrade by position

Fournier>Smith
Ross/Simmons>Clarkson/Korver
Vucevic>Thompson
Augustine/Mack>Hill

The picks can offer high value and low cost players too

If Lebron stays the depth and players are upgraded in my opinion, the issue we have here is we have a lot of capable starters and no stars. This trade gives them the starters around Lebron and Love, sheds the contracts, and clears cap for the future.

If Lebron leaves they won't find someone to build around at #8 and they will be relatively set up to compete still with Kevin Love. A line up of Augustine/Simmons/Fournier/Love/Vucevic still makes or competes for the playoffs. Augustine/Fournier/Lebron/Love/Vucevic has a deep playoff run.

If we make the deal we are taking on a ton of salary, we are in fact saddled until 2020 anyway though, so it wouldn't be a massive problem to take on for another lottery pick. If we took Young at #6 then Bridges would be the pick at #8 unless Bamba drops and our backcourt would be sorted for the future. The biggest danger would be Coach Clifford playing the veterans we acquired from the Cavaliers too much and not developing our core. While not ideal agreeing to buyouts with Smith and Thompson would be best for both the team and those teams. My Ideal starting line up would be

Young/Hill
Bridges/Clarkson
Hezonja*/Korver
Gordon/Zizic
Biyombo/Isaac/Birch

No disrespect intended, but I don’t think the Cavs, nor many people period, would agree with these talent assessments.

Fournier being better than Smith is the only one and he makes a lot more money.

every year somebody thinks how great it would be to scoop up all the favorite rookies and make a team out of them. even though we know two thirds of them are not gonna amount to anything.

If this is the only way to convince LBJ to stay, then they better start playing Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" now.

Yep I agree.

I think Hill is clearly better then Augustin and Mack. I can't agree with axl on that one at all. As for Vuc being better then Thompson I disagree there there as well. They both rebound well so that is a push. I think Thompson is better defensively though Vuc is better offensively. But Thompson can play some PF as well so I think Thompson gets a slight nod over Vuc. Ross and Simmons is probably better then Korver and Clarkson but not by a whole lot. Korver though lackluster in other areas at this point in his career still is a better shooter then either. Clarkson als has potential and I think could make for a better complement to Lebron is given time but that is a big if right now as Lebron staying is a question mark. Fournier though I would say is equal to Smith. Yeah Smith sure is streaky and can make some bonehead moves but still can light up a box score from time to even with Lebron. I am not sure Evan would be that but who knows for sure so right now I would say they are equal but that could change. But I agree that this deal doesn't make sense for Cleveland nor does it move the needle much for Lebron and I would say it could even slightly help him move on. Though I don't think that it would matter to him much and very well could have no impact on him.

Realistic and doable moves this summer. I will consider this as my best summer!

Rozier. Beverley. Sexton
Barton. Simmons. Grayson
Morris. Isaac. Dekker
Gordon. Kaminsky. Birch
Dwight. Baynes. Biyombo

Clifford will be :D :D :D

The only way James stays in Cleveland is if the Cavs come back to win the title.

Return to Orlando Magic
