Accumulated Future Magic Draft Picks

Post#1 » by JBSouthpaw » Tue Jun 26, 2018 5:37 pm

Can anyone provide a source of what we have in the future?

I know we have 1 2nd rounder from Denver for moving back this year. (what year?)
we have 2nds from the Lakers (years)
And a 1st for moving our 2nd 1st last year? (protected I believe). (year?)

Any else?

I was thinking we may have to attach draft picks if we were to move some of our higher dollar assets.

has a great breakdown.

Great info!

On a side note. Do the Magic always get screwed over when it comes to trades with first round picks. The OKC pick is protected 1-20, then turns into seconds if we don’t receive it. I recall a lot of Hennigan trades involved this.

Yea Hennigan was far too generous in his negotiations when it came to draft pick protections. I believe there was a Lakers pick we were due but the protections were ridiculous and the Lakers never got better so it turned into 2nd rounders.

we traded away the 25th pick. did you expect it to turn into a top-10 pick?

It’s like we would settle, Hennigan: “can we have a first rounder?” Other Gm: “yeah but it’s top 20 protected” Hennigan:”ok” *walks away thinking it’s a good deal

Fwiw, okc pick was last year. It was the first trade of WeHam.

As for the Lakers trade, unfortunately it is the case. They just never got better. All in all, all the picks they trade to he conveyed, they were able to keep everything except for the one this draft. If im not mistaken. Very smart move.

???

It was madness that the Lakers pick didnt convey. Was only like top 5 or 3 protected for like 4 years in a row and we got insanely unlucky with it. Im sure if someone calculated to cumulative lottery odds of it conveying one of those years it would have been like a 5% overall chance for the Lakers to keep it.

Really it should have been a top 5 pick for us from a pick that was traded as a throw in with the Dwight trade given the Lakers thought they were going to be good for the next decade.
