According to Nate Duncan, The Magic stretched Shelvin Mack's #1 million over 3 years. I know this was mentioned in the main thread but want this to have it's own topic.



This is what they did with C.J. Watson last year.

I have no idea why they did this as now there will be $333,000 of dead weight on the cap in 20-21.

Hopefully, this doesn't happen with someone like Bismack Biyombo.

This just seems weird, I wonder if there's a deeper meaning to this yet to be seen?

Are they getting ready to absorb something that would have cost us significantly if we didn't? I don't get this. Seems cheeeeeap. OKC stretching Melo, ok yes. Us stretching 1 mil? We will look back and say, "ooooohhhhh" when it comes to light lol.

It definitely seems like an odd move. I assume it is done to give them wiggle room to stay out of the luxury tax if they end up making any trades and take back a bigger contract, and/or also if they are to frontload Gordon's contract like most suspect they will do. I guess having a couple hundred thousand dollars extra to work with might be nice, but it just seems like it would be better just to pay Mack his million and be done with it.

Feels like a trade is coming and they need all the room the can get. Gordon's contract might not be signed until after the deal is complete.
