Tbh I think we are gonna stay with what we have now and wait for next year free agency to go after kemba (or other FA)

However I ve thought about Portland situation and think they would love to trade with us.

Not sure I d do this trade but I think it would really helped both teams

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycnqnm72

Blockbuster alert :-)

Portland need a PF (gordon) and need to clear bad contracts (moe and Evans)

Here we come:

Gordon (once allowed to be traded)
Vuc (expiering)
Ross (expiering)
Dj (to make salary work and to feel pg duties)

For

Lillard
Moe
Evans

Portland get a starting pf and clear nearly 28m$

Orlando takes on few bad contracts (expiering same year as mogdof) but guys that could still help us ( long wingspan lol)

Lillard, grant, briesco
Fournier,Simms,iwundu
Simms,Evans,moe
Isaac,birch,FA
Mo,birch,mogdof

This is awful for Orlando.

I think we're stuck at PG (and with a stagnant offense) for now. I've never been a fan of Schroeder but I don't really know him well and, if all you read is this forum, you don't hear any new takes....Bad attitude, can't shoot a lick, etc. He was close to All-Star level in recent years...I hope WeHam at least kicks the tires because he seems VERY gettable.

I think we really whiffed on IT-and I think IT would agree as he sits on the bench and imagines what could have been in ORL.

I do think the plan is pretty straightforward.

Whether they’re right or wrong remains to be seen, but I think Weltman and Hammond believe this team is going to improve by 10-12 maybe even 15 wins on health, Clifford > Vogel and continued development of Gordon and Isaac specifically.

So if/when the record improves, that will be a clear sign to players and agents that tanking is over and this is a team on the rise. Again, whether this is accurate or not is mostly irrelevant as long as people believe it is.

So armed with a perception that the team just needs “one more piece” to become a consistent playoff team, summer of 2019 is when they’ll look to acquire a PG in free agency or in a trade since they’ll pretty much be able to create a max contract slot assuming they stretch Mozgov.

If they need a max slot to chase a PG next summer, stretching Timo is the no brainer thing to do because it gives the 11.14M in immediate cap space for 2019 and only lowers their 2020 and 2021 cap space by 5.56M which will pretty much be mitigated by the cap increases anyway

Will that work? Is it even a smart plan? Both of those things are totally and legitimately debatable.

All that said...

I would at least consider Mozgov for Schroder if the Hawks are just looking to straight dump out of his contract a year early.

I look back at Schroder’s numbers from a 16-17 when Atlanta was still a playoff team and wasn’t outright tanking/letting him do whatever he wanted because they wanted to lose anyway.

18 points 6 assists a night on a 451/.340/.855 split. Those are more than workable numbers for a playoff team. I’m throwing out his 17-18 season because he was ball hogging to an insane degree with the Hawks intentionally trying to lose.

I don’t *think* this front office would trade for Schroder *this* offseason without seeing how their current 2019 plan shakes out first, but maybe I’m wrong.

I would at least consider Mozgov for Schroder if the Hawks are just looking to straight dump out of his contract a year early.

Ditto, that move would be a win win. For the coming year we take a flyer on Schroeder and see if he helps us (he's guaranteed to help more than Mozgov in any event), if he doesn't or we don't like his attitude we stretch him instead.

NB I have no clue on the cap implications of this, I get that Schroeder has an extra year on his deal but I am not sure how that would affect the stretching plan.

thats about the only thing i would consider for Schroder, and that is only if Clifford really believes he can turn him into a more modern PG. for his first 4 years, Kemba was a 31% 3 pt shooter. he only came on really shooting the past 3 years (38%). the last 3 years, Dennis has been at about 32% from 3. he also has this felony assault issue, but we know NBA players rarely get convicted of anything, so it will probably go away.

Atlanta Hawks just got Jeremy Lin in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Hawks now have Schroder, Trae and Lin. I think it's time to really fire up the Schroder trade talk to Orlando if the Hawks can take Mozgov.

We'll find our next PG once 2030 rolls around.

Lillard would be unhappy if he got moved here with that remaining roster. Better to build organically. Mozgov cannot get moved until near the deadline. If we wanted Schroder he would already be here imo.

What are the odds Troy Caupain sees big minutes at point? He has looked pretty good in Summer League. I watched him quite a bit when he played for Cincy.

I don’t know what to think about IT yet. I mean, the FO clearly could have gotten him for the 1 year vets and they passed. There has to be something more there. A player like that only gets 2 million on a year? That is a bit of a red flag to me.

There are 3 PGs on NBA contracts ahead of him, so I'd say the odds aren't good, unless you were taking about Lakeland.

True, but if no one wants Schroeder, then what can ATL do? They have to move the guy at some point.

I would not offer ATL an expiring deal for that guy. Mozgov’s deal expires a year earlier.

Which 3 would that be? Augustine, Grant and Briscoe?

Yeah. Not saying that is ranking their talent, I thought Caupain played pretty good overall in SL.

People said the same about Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. George was traded last year and Kawhi is nearly out the door in San Antonio. Nothing the team can do once a star player becomes disgruntled and publicly states that they want out. Lillard hasn't done that yet, but rumors continue to grow that he wants out. Even starting to see Lillard to the Lakers ideas being tossed around.

He very well could get traded, if things don't improve in Portland.

gets them out a year early from Schroder. And why would we give up expirings for Schroder without compensation?
