Would you do this trade for Collin Sexton?

Cleveland trades: Collin Sexton, J.R. Smith & Tristan Thompson

Orlando trades: Evan Fournier & Nikola Vucevic

Why for Cleveland? Acquire a couple of established players that fit into the roster. Fournier is severely underrated and Vucevic gives us a back to the basket big, which is very useful in the playoffs - get rid of two bad contracts in the process.

Why for Orlando? This is all about getting a very good prospect that could be their future at point guard. The Magic are a rebuilding team so trading away two win now players shouldn't hurt them at all.

PG: George Hill | Jordan Clarkson
SG: Evan Fournier
SF: Cedi Osman
PF: Kevin Love | Larry Nance
C: Nikola Vucevic | Ante Zizic

I realize that frontcourt defense could be an issue, but I don't think Vucevic is a downgrade in that regard over Thompson.

Hmm, yeah I think I would too, even though I really dislike JR Smith. I believe Sexton would be worth it. We are around 6M short on our end, I'd like to toss in Simmons and get two second rounders back.

My main focus when putting together this proposal was: acquire win now players, get rid of toxic contracts & cut costs. The trade as it is works on the trade machine.

Simmons would take minutes away from Cedi Osman.

As much as I like Sexton, those JR and Tristan deals are rough. The Magic are 1 year away from opening up a glimmer of cap flexibility, and I'd rather keep that open at the moment.

I think based on what i know of this front office, and the timeline of the team, we wont spend anything significant in FA until two years time. That will be when everyone but the rookies, AG and Fournier will be under contract. We could have space to sign two max players in that offseason, in addition to a nucleaus of Isaac, Bamba, AG, Fournier and our 2019 FRP. To me, we shouldnt do anything this next two years to jeapordise our two max spots in 2020. Hopefully we show some big-time flashes between now and 2020, so that the idea of coming here as a FA is appealing.

The whole pre-draft season the thought was that Vučević and Founrnier would be part of a package to upgrade the PG slot. Sexton is a need fit to the team. The real issue for Orlando would simply be taking on three rookies this year. The main goal for this team is to add 5-10 wins to last year's total (i.e. start building an identity).

In the end this is a much better trade for Orlando than Cleveland. So yes of course Magic management accepts it.

But boy would 2018/19 by rough with this roster:

Grant/Sexton/Briscoe
Ross/Smith/Iwundu
Isaac/Simmons/Frazier
Gordon/Martin/Birch
Thompson/Bamba/Mozgov

I struggle to see 24 wins in that roster.

So Cavs refused to trade pick during whole 2018 despite having Lebron and they will dump player that they drafted because, why not?

They only have one year more than Vuc but one less than Evan (assuming he opts in).

Add a high profile young PG, punt on free agency for a year and given Ross also expires in that time we enter 2020 FA with even more room than we would have this summer.

So the contracts don’t worry me at all if we like Sexton.

I would like Sexton here sure. He’s a great pg prospect. But JR Smith is a headache we don’t need, and Thompson is just a low class bum in my opinion. Besides, Sexton looks like a real piece for Cleveland to build around. A couple of the Magic’s cast offs probably don’t interest them much.

If 2020 is our Free Agency Target.... I'm totally down!!!

Wthout the addition of any new contracts.... AG is the only big contract in 2020 and we will have a ton of space and the addition of the 2019 and 2020 picks as well. JI, AG and Bamba will hopefully be at or close to potential.... and our team would be mighty attractive.

but.... i don't see the cavs agreeing to it. haha

Exactly. If Cleveland were crazy enough to do this then we say thank you and run.

But this means they are willing to sacrifice a prized rookie for the sake of free agency. Who honestly believes Cleveland (sans Lebron) is a popular destination? They are focusing on internal growth.

Indeed. Vooch is gone after this year. I like the guy more than most, but we need to cast him off to the highest bidder. Fournier is replaceable and getting a point guard that could fit our team would be great. We're not trying to win a championship here. Thompson is a decent stopgap big and Smith could perhaps be bought out if he really doesn't want to be here.
But there is no way Cleveland would do this. They clearly love Sexton. There's little reason for them to be that desperate to get rid of Thompson and Smith.

I dont see management doing it. Adding more payroll to our team without a winning product? if you look at the string of trades we did recently, we’re actually getting cash considerations in return.

Also, sexton cant shoot..

I would be happy with that result.
