Magic green light entertainment complex

Post#1 » by YosemiteSam » Wed Sep 5, 2018 3:41 pm

For all those who want Alex Martins fired, this is the type of reason that will never happen

With a new design, Orlando Magic's long-promised entertainment complex will begin construction in 2019

the sports and entertainment district — as it’s being called for now — features a 250-room luxury hotel, a 300-unit high-end residential tower, 80,000 square feet of event space, 100,000 square feet of retail space bordering a large, open-air plaza and a 200,000-square-foot, seven-story class A office building that will be the Magic’s new headquarters.

The final cost of the development will be “significantly higher” than the $200 million that has been touted for years, Martins said, but he wouldn’t be more specific.

Bordered by Church Street to the south, Division Avenue to the west, Central Avenue to the north and Hughey Avenue to the east, the complex will primarily cater to basketball fans and other visitors to the Amway Center across Church Street. But the goal is to make the complex a destination as well, Martins said.

sounds like what Atlanta has done with the "Battery" next to the new Braves stadium.

The Cowboys have done something very similar as well.

Martins is one of the reasons that the Magic are not leaving Orlando anytime soon.

Sounds like we could be in contention for a Final four or more all-star games after it's completed.

New design? Are there any pictures of this new design in the OS article? I can't read it, because OS blocks me like a layup.

Martins is very good at his job and at business. He's been very good for Orlando. He just needs to continue sticking to business like he's been doing since Weltman's been here.

Logos on the top of the two buildings look pretty close to saying "STD".

I’ll be surprised if the final construction looks anywhere near that rendering. Lots of “ifs” especially the office space depending on who wants to pre-lease.

I'm not one to challenge people's opinions, and I don't take hyperbole seriously, but I am taking you at your word and so I am honestly curious as to why you think Alex Martins is "the reason the Magic are never winning anything in the next decade."

Looking at this in the context of the DeVos passing, clearly the Magic is not leaving Orlando if management has agreed to be part of such a massive investment.

Aside from the obvious of why this is a great addition for the Magic, downtown and us the fans, I love that it makes the area in front of the arena more "open."

The exterior of the O-Rena had great visuals on TV and was more inviting for hanging out before games. This new complex will give us something closer to that.
