Vince is going to retire after next season!

Damn, I remember that he looked fairly close to being done when he was with us. Gotta give credit to the guy for reinventing himself and sticking around for as long as he has. That game winner he hit as a Maverick vs the Spurs was dope as hell, too. Interesting that he chose to completely forgo any kind of ring chasing and prefers to mentor young teams. It will be interesting to see where he spends his last season.

Maybe he will be looking for a HC job or another staff position as soon as he retires?

So this happened, Paul Pierce crapped his pants, thus why he 'needed' the wheel chair during the 08 finals.....

I've never seen a guy ruin his legacy more just by sitting at a desk talking.

Probably his own victim at this point, but matching up against Gasol doesn't help. He played decent last game but yeah, sad to see what injuries can do to a player so quickly. He needs to go the Kevin Love route and just slim way down. Maybe reinvent his playing style.

Yep, but to be fair, torn achillies and than torn muscle ( not sure witch one, i think quad?) in same year will do that to you.

Anyway, if KD and Klay can't return and contribute, this one could be over.

He wasn't smart with his money. He had to pay Puma 13.5m and his former agent 4.7m, plus a failing restaurant.

He would've had to make probably over 50m to have the real money after taxes and other fees to pay them.

Reminds me of Jabbar and Duncan who had to play way beyond their primes to pay for agents and other people taking advantage of them.

A little off topic from the 2019 finals...

I've been really getting into watching Kobe highlights over the last few weeks and it has made me think about a few things. I'm 34 years old so I watched all of Kobe's NBA career and it is really just hitting me that he only won 1 MVP. Obviously he's got 5 rings, 2 finals MVPs, and will always be in the GOAT conversation, but only 1 MVP is just criminal. He legitimately could've been named MVP in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010. Nash, Dirk, and LeBron were deserving, too, but I wonder if the media would go back and change their votes now knowing that he only won 1 for his career.

And then my main question for the board... what championship win was more impressive? LeBron and the 2016 Cavs over the Warriors or Kobe and the 2010 Lakers over the Celtics?

Cavs: LeBron, Kyrie, Love, JR Smith, Tristan Thompson
Warriors: Steph, Klay, Draymond, Bogut, Barns, Iggy (best record in NBA history)

Lakers: Kobe, Gasol, Fisher, Artest, Bynum, Odum
Celtics: Pierce, Allen, Garnett, Rondo, Perkins, Wallace

To me hands down it's the Lakers over the Celtics but it seems to rarely get brought up in terms of one player (Kobe) carrying a team over a more talented superteam.

I think LeBrons performance was better. Put up better stats and efficiency against the team with the best record of all time and reigning back to back MVP. One of the most impressive finals performances I’ve ever seen and cemented him as one of the GOATs

Boogie never could jump. He has one of worst verticals recorded.

For a record i did say later that Boogie is hurt, but still , 4 points 3 rebounds is super terrible.

With the news Vince Carter will play another season, if he plays a game after 1 Jan., 2020, he will have played NBA ball in four differing decades. That's unreal!

Wish we would've given that squad another year together.

From the article:

The Ringer wrote:The team remade itself that offseason after the departure of one of their ace playmakers, Hedo Turkoglu, in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors. The following decade in the Eastern Conference would be dominated by the Boston Celtics and LeBron James, with both the Cavs and Miami Heat. The Magic’s decline was hastened by the rise of superstars who eclipsed Howard, who was traded to the Lakers in 2012.

As the Magic were declining as a franchise and entering basketball’s wilderness, the sharp rise of more prominent shooters spurred a league-wide embrace of the 3-point shot, and the Magic became the NBA’s forgotten innovators.

[...]

They also were not massive fans of pull-up 3s off the dribble. Van Gundy wanted his team to rely on spacing to create inside-out shots and get as many players involved as possible in a possession.

Of course, Turkoglu pulled up sometimes anyway, especially in the second half of playoff games, when he was essentially the team’s primary point guard. “We celebrate Giannis [Antetokounmpo]—and we should celebrate Giannis—and Hedo didn’t have the physical strength or talent of Giannis, but this was a 6-foot-10 guy who handled and passed like a point guard and shot the 3,” Van Gundy said. ”Even to this day, he’s on a short list of guys who could do that. There just haven’t been many guys like him in league history.”

...

Oh yeah, I'm still bitter about this.

(For the younger generation: I believe I'm owed an apology...)

So did Shaq who was the most dominant player in his prime.

Lol the spin is ridiculous at this point. Cousins looked like the worst player on the court regardless of Gasol’s super elite “allstar” Vucevic stopping defense.

The warriors part owner Mark Stevens who pushed Kyle Lowry-

What about the woman who was standing nearby patted Lowry on his back? That was kinda of out of bounds wasn't it. Well maybe Lowry thought it felt good when the woman patted him Lowry on his back and she could have been an attractive good looking lady so I guess nothing happens to her.
