We’ve got Randy until January ‘22 or someone hires him away.

That said, I think this year was a bit unfair to judge his performance. The opt outs and players kicked off the team didn’t help. Bowl opt outs really did us in at the end.

ugh, first read that thinking January 22nd then realized possibly stuck with him another year.

Obviously this year gets some leeway but its the same issues its been for the last 3 seasons - its a TFL or a first down. You shouldn't have to score 35-40 points a game to get a win. His style doesn't work, at least not with the current roster anyway.

I dunno. When you play as fast as we do on offense, there are a lot of times the defensive players don't have a time to regroup, catch their breath, make adjustments, etc. Plus all the unique stuff this season.

I don't think Shannon is worth the price tag, which is why I think he should be let go. But I don't think we're going to find someone who is going to be able to keep teams under 20 ppg while we're scoring 40+.

Boston needs help and could be a great trade partner

Boston trade a 1st to Chicago along their trade exception for porter

Then trade porter + Edwards (or one of their young pg) to Orlando for AG+aminu +2nd

DW leaving the program for Tennessee. An absolutely huge set back for our program imo. He deserves the job but had hoped we could hang on to him longer.

Looks like he got an 80% raise... that will go a long way in Tennessee.

Yeah, he definitely got a pay day to take that gig. Knoxville the town isn’t my favorite place but the areas around there are beautiful.

Hopefully he doesn’t pull a frost and take the whole Department with him.

Yea I had hoped we'd hang on to him for a few more years, I had hoped he'd stick around through the next round of realignment. On the plus side it's nice to have an AD in the SEC recognize our Natty :P

Can't fault him for taking a job with higher money. Seems strange that it happened so quickly and UCF apparently wasn't even given a chance to counter. Considering he had just signed an extension last year and was in the process of building a huge home in Winter Park, I wonder if there are some details behind the scenes that we'll eventually learn that led him to want to leave earlier. Maybe the budgetary constrains coming because of COVID was making his job look really rough? Or it could just be Tennessee made him too good of an offer, lol.

Money was not the primary motivation.

I doubt it hurt their pitch to offer that much more. I’m sure there are other reasons to consider. UCF Athletics financially is hurting due to Covid-19, new president at the university, football took a step back with multiple losses, basketball season already a wash, et, etc.

A job at Tennessee is a premiere gig to land. It’s a beautiful part of the country to live in and taxes are even lower than Florida. Being able to hire his own football coach is an added plus.

Went to bed hoping it was just crazy rumors, woke up to the announcement. Blah. I know a large portion of our fan base wasn't thrilled with Huepel but I wasn't ready to throw in the towel on him yet. I think he's just a young coach still figuring some stuff out and could be a really good coach one day.

Hopefully DG isn't following him as well.

We need a new AD yesterday now though. Can't drag this process out for a few months with interim coaches.

Other than the timing, this isn't really as bad as it appears.

This is an extremely attractive AD and HC opening.

Agreed.

There was a day when the Fiesta Bowl victory seemed like we reached our apex. Look at us now.

Then later, even Frost got off to a bumpy start.

Better days are ahead and we'll get new blood in here which, if you think about it, we needed anyway.
