What a debacle last night.

Coaches and players failed miserably.

Ever since the Stanford game, the edge that Ucf played with is gone.

There are some legitimate reasons for the 7-3 record, but there is a sense of massive dysfunction with this years group.

They are what they are, and that’s a so-so team.

Leadership matters.

I’ve bit my tongue on criticizing Heupel and the rest of the coaching staff all year, but last night was so bumbling and inept that it really can’t be ignored.

That was a truly pathetic coaching performance. Definitely the worst coaching performance of the season and probably the worst one in the last five years.

The team looked like a group that the coaching staff has completely lost. They played like they hated their coaches. It’s just not a good sign whatsoever.

The thing that concerns me most is that UCF is only graduating a few guys, so the vast majority of the players are going to be back. So if this really is a lost locker room scenario, I’m not sure it gets fixed in the off-season.

I’m not that down on the Knights. I mean, they are 7 points from being undefeated.

The only thing that bugs me is Heupel’s refusal to pull Gabriel. The kid is an 18 year old freshman who has been obviously rattled in all three road losses (not by the crowd last night, but by Tulsa’s pressure). You’ve got DJ on the bench who is a little bit older, and slugged it out with a tough LSU team last year. Once you see Dillon’s feet start fluttering in the pocket every snap in the 3rd quarter, you’ve got to pull him for a bit and try and calm him down.

Last nights coaching and refs were just bad, really bad. To lose the game on a personnel change penalty is pathetic.

I feel like the dumb penalty that kept Tulane on the field toward the end of the first half that ended up a hurt UCF player and Tulane touchdown was kinda of the turning point.

There were so many bad, dumb, weird things that all had HUGE impact on the game.

The penalty you mentioned...
The needless hold on Killins’ long TD
The snap when Otis wasn’t looking, and subsequent non-call on the guy leading with his head on Dillon
The out of nowhere intentional grounding call (that legit shocked me)
And of course, the 12th man flag to end the game

A very strange game that felt like it was gonna slide into a loss starting right with that play you mentioned.

And wtf was Nate yelling at Turner about?

ill give LSU credit, they came in to play. too many unforced errors (Tua fumbling at 7 yr line, Juedy dropping TD catches). and that Moss catch at the 1 when he was out of bounds. Would have loved to see Tua healthy vs LSU (thanks Tennessee for that injury tackle) but it is what it is. Still my team, still root for them. hopefully they dont fall apart now without a title to chase

UCF would probably be undefeated right now with a healthy Mckenzie Milton. Dillion Gabriel is fine at home but having trouble on the road(At Pitt, At Cincy, At Tulsa) but was fine (At FAU and At Temple). UCF should have played Wimbush or Mack for the games (At Pitt, At Cincy and At Tulsa). They could have still given Gabriel reps for all games but Wimbush or Mack might have won those games.

Thoughts from watching the basketball game last night...

-Overall i'd say I came away with higher expectations for the season than I did going into the year. I think it's going to take time for everyone to gel and really hit their stride, but when they were playing at the level i think they can, they looked pretty good.

-I really like Dazon Ingram. He plays with fire and passion and goes up strong. Maybe a bit too much passion when he got thrown out, haha. I honestly think he was trying to shove Lyle's shoulder and because the guy is so short his aim was off and it brushed off and into his jaw.

-Milon is struggling and his shot looks soft. He was short on just about every shot and he got blocked on multiple three's. Not sure if his release was slow or what but he shouldn't be getting blocked that often. I'm not too worried because he's known for being a sharp shooter.

-Bertz is fun to watch play. His shot is unorthodox but is money, and he plays really hard.

-I was impressed with Green. If he shoots like that all season he's going to be a big asset and i'm excited to see his growth.

-Dejesus looked pretty good.

-Smith looks good on offense, but he's gotta stay out of foul trouble. He needs to stop flopping, especially with the new rules. We can't have our best offensive player getting called for blocks because he went down at the slightest contact from a driving player.

-On that note, whole team needs to stop flopping lol

-Perimeter defense needs to improve. Miami was able to drive too easily and get into the middle of the key no sweat.

-Student section showed up. That was great. Hope they keep up the energy and this loss doesn't suddenly push them away.

The problem with the Miami game it was a 9pm game. If it was a 7pm for sure I would have gone. 3 players I feel should be the rotation (Bol, Tony Johnson and Alok). I know Alok isn't eligible until December or January but I don't know why Tony Johnson or BOL haven't played yet.

Collin Smith- I don't like his game last year or this year. He's a scoring option but I don't trust him as the #1 or #2 scoring option on the team. Last year he was better as the #4 or #5 option behind BJ, Dawkins, Tacko and Terrell Allen.

This team needs time and hopefully they catch up when conference play starts. Because right now we would get blown out probably by (Houston, Memphis,Cincy and Wichita State)

OT- but what a shame that Tua was badly injured. Saban is catching a lot of heat for playing Tua in this game at all much less pulling him earlier with a 35-7 lead. It would be very rare to have a a team pull their starting QB while still in the second quarter.

Unfortunate.

I hope the injury can be overcome with medical technology having so many advancements since the Bo Jackson days.

I haven't had a chance to read the articles but I've seen a few things say the injury is similar to Bo Jackson but different in ways that have a higher likelyhood of recovery.

yeah. it would have been different if he injured his ankle. But that injury is a freak injury. I mean, who do you really point to other than Bo. everyone can Monday morning QB. sucks for him and his family. people talking about this affecting his career before he even has his surgery. Maybe its a blessing in a way, that he does similar to Lamar Jackson, where he doesnt go to a horrible team like Miami who wouldnt be able to protect him with that bad OL, but go to a team later in the 1st round where he can sit a year and learn. Maybe an Atlanta, New England, Steelers, Tennessee, Chicago, etc.

IMO it should be less "he shouldn't have been in there!" to "this is another reason why they should be able to receive some sort of compensation while in college"

UCF Football twitter page has the clip up of College Gameday at UCF last year. There was no way College Gameday was coming to UCF this year when we don't have a high caliber opponent on our schedule. If we don't get Cincy/SMU or Memphis at home there's no way College Gameday is coming.

For 2020 we do Cincinnati at home and that's probably our 1 game chance at getting College Gameday to come next year. If they don't come for UCF vs Cincinnati, there's no way they are coming for any of our other opponents because we don't play SMU or Memphis at home.

I hope he had an insurance policy. I know they are a thing. I don't know how commonplace they are. Even if they aren't very common, surely Tagovailoa would be among the exceptions.

For what it's worth, college athletes are compensated, especially if they are on scholarship. I've read the stories about the financial difficulties some athletes have had to face. I'm rather skeptical based on my experiences. There was always an abundance of facilities and privileges afforded to athletes. Student athletes aren't supposed to be afforded privileges that aren't available to all other students.

I believe scholarships should be guaranteed for a certain number of years and I don't see any reason why there should be restrictions as to when a player becomes eligible for a professional draft, but I don't see any reason why this injury should serve as an example for why schools should further compensate their student athletes.
