Poll: will Vučević be an All-star this season?

With all the press on Vučević, it is time to start thinking the Magic has an All-star this year.

His PER is 8th in the league (he is top in Easter Centers); and his real plus minus (RPM) is 10th best in the league (again tops in the East at the C slot).

His 20.8 ppg would have him as the first 20 ppg player since Howard left. Furthermore he and Towns are the only Centers with an eFG% over 0.550 that are also scoring 20ppg+. Vučević also leads the league in 3-point FG% for all Centers at 40.7%

He is averaging a double-double given his 11.9 rpg that is 11th in the league. And indeed is 5th in the league in total double doubles (19 so far, which means he gets a DD at a 68% rate).

Vučević is the top Eastern Center assist man at 3.7 apg.

Vučević is also averaging 1 steal per game AND 1 block per game !

...

If the All star vote closes around 15 Jan., then Vučević is looking at about 14 games to solidify or dampen his prospects.

If our record stays respectable over the next few weeks and he doesn't have a sharp decline for some reason, I don't see how he doesn't get voted in.

If he gets in it will be by the coaches. I don't think enough people know who he is for it to be by fan vote. I may be underestimating him but it seems like casuals vote for this and he isn't popular.

If we are still in the playoff picture a month from now he will be in the game as a reserve. It would also increase his trade value.

Personally I see no path for Vučević being elected to the All star game. But I also so no path for the coaches to leave him out of the reserves.

My thoughts:
Embiid is not playing anywhere near as excellent as Vučević, but the Sixers winning games helps Embiid to a very clear path to the top-5. Really this is what the poll is ultimately about: will Vučević get more votes than Embiid? For me it is a clear no.

Are you talking about starter or for reserves? No way he will get in over Embiid (and I disagree he's not playing as excellent, they have a better record and Embiid is averaging 27/14, although he still has his warts in his game, he's just dominant), but no reason he can't make it as a reserve with Drummond. West had three C reserves last year.

Embiid since he came back from injury a few games ago is averaging 33.6 points and 14 rebounds. Vuc could get in if we are still flirting with .500, but Embiid is basically modern Shaq with his numbers.

He should be.

The Magic are the worst team in the league without him this year IMO.

yet Like Martins said
Jeff and John are doing such a good job.

reality is if Vooch had a season like any of his previous ones.We would be tied with the Suns for the worst record
SUCH A GOOD JOB

Last year you had the following forward-centers:

----------------------------------------
Anthony Davis
Demarcus Cousins
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Joel Embiid
Al Horford
Kevin Love
Kristaps Porzingis
Karl Anthony Towns
Lamarcus Aldridge
Andre Drummond
----------------------------------------

Let us assume the same number of such players make the rosters (10).

Who are the 100% absolute repeats?
Davis, Greek Freak, Embiid

Who are the 100% absolute removals?
Cousins, Porzingis, Love

Who are on the hot seat to be dropped?
Al Horford, Lamarcus Aldridge

Who out there is a lock to enter the list ahead of Vuc?
Blake Griffin, Nikola Jokic .... I can't think of any other obvious choices

By my estimation there are anywhere from 3-5 at large spots with only two clear cut big men more likely to get a call than Vuc.

Yes. He will get in.

Horford, Love, Porzingis are not making, Griffin and Vuc in.
He is second best C in conference. It's a lock.

Horford has been pretty meh, Zingis and Love are injuried.
Griffin is playing best BB of his life and Vuc is rock solid.

I assume East starters will be Kemba/irving, Dipo,Giannis, Leonard and Embiid

Simmons, Irving/Kemba , Butler, Wall or Beal or both,Vuc, Lavine that's pretty much it?

I didn't think of the injured bigs helping Vooch even further. It makes sense to me, fits Vooch in at around 7th-10th in.

The real question then is will he be picked last or last by the team captains? For the AS Game itself his style of play is a terrible fit.

Conference doesn’t matter. The new rules do not guarantee equal representation among East and West.

Starters (First Round): The eight players who, along with the two Captains, are the All-Star starters will be drafted in the first round.

Reserves (Second Round): The fourteen players named as All-Star reserves will be drafted, regardless of conference in the second round.

Well yea, but if Lebron and Durant/Curry/Giannis are captains they will look like complete fools if they vote some of their teammates instad of 21-11 guy.
Also around allstar game half of players are injuried and replaced anyway
