RJ Barrett: The answer to all our problems?

All drafts spawn the inevitable debate of drafting for need versus drafting BPA. Typically, there is only one or two players in a class worthy of carrying both flags (Luka Doncic comes to mind).

It is still early, but RJ looks to be that guy for us next summer. But as he is most likely the #1 pick and guaranteed to be a top 3 pick while we are trending towards a playoff push we need some work.

So here is my questions:

What WOULDN’T you trade for RJ?

Honestly, I’m willing to give our 2019 pick, the OKC pick, a future protected first and any one player from BIG they desire.

... I’m serious. Is that too much? Why? What would you offer?

As conductor of the TANK TRAIN, I approve.

Not even close to being enough for a Top 2 pick in this draft. 4 quarters does not equal a dollar.

Kind of a weird thread.

That’s is part of the point.

By asking “what wouldn’t you give” I’m basically suggesting nearly anything they want is on the table for me.

I’m struggling to think of something I wouldn’t trade away if he was on the board. It sounds like you agree then?

So I’ll change it up. What is a package you think is good enough to get that pick? — and would you do it?

Every 1st round pick from now until 2030.

Us: "We'll literally give you anything you want."

Them: "Hmmm....Give us your 1st, OKC 1st, future 1st, Isaac, Gordon, Bamba..."

The problem is the team who is able to draft him won't want what we have to offer.

If this was a desire for us to get a high pick, then we've shot ourselves in the foot.

Irrelivent to the point here.

He is what this team needs. As of now, unless we fall a part the rest of the season, it isn't happening. Even if he got a terrible injury like Embiid, RJ goes top 5 in this draft. If we trade Vooch and Ross, get a higher pick ourselves and maybe another decent pick (Boston has multiple), maybe a team would be interested depending on who else they like. Maybe. Unlikely, but maybe.

Even if I said I would give up Gordon, Isaac, Bamba and our lottery protected 1st and OKC's pick... Do you think the team who is able to draft RJ Barrett or Zion Williamson will take that offer?

Irrelevant.

My question is would you do that — or something else crazy? What is your limit here?

Is RJ the answer to all our problems? That is what I’m trying to figure out.

This past draft everyone freaked out that we didn’t sell the farm for a mythical trade (which may not have even been on the table) to grab Luka or Trae.

Is RJ another guy worthy of such an uproar?

Hell yes.

The uproar is that we could've kept all of our assets and had a better chance of drafting him than trading all of our assets to get him. But no, we want to win with Vuc, Evan and DJ at the helm.

Hey, I have always been a tank supporter as well. But I don’t run the show and have to turn to other ideas. We are kind of in a dull period right now with trades not likely to heat up until the deadline. But man I am really engaged in NCAA ball early this year and RJ is the main reason why.

... sorry, I’m just not on the Zion bandwagon yet. Well, over RJ that is. At #2 overall sure, why not?

He could be the missing piece with BIG. However, giving up one of them makes us then need another piece. Personally, I do not value RJ as highly as I did Luka. Luka with our current roster would have been near perfect. It didn't work out. Now we're stuck trying to find a legit No. 1 option and that's not easy. If we want to commit big money to Vooch, of course we should see about potential deals for Bamba.

There is a zero shot at Barrett even if the Magic tank away the rest of the season so I will just chalk this up to the daily rant of disenchanted fans whose every other post is why the team should tank.

I get it. We're all searching for answers here. Unfortunately, WeHam like the feeling of sitting on their hands way too much.

I want Barrett on my NBAk roster too. That is the only realistic way I can think of getting him!

Who wouldn’t I trade for him? Isaac and Bamba.
Why? Guys on rookie deals are valuable and Barrett can play next to them to generate offense.

I could completely care less about the rest of the players on this roster.

Not that Orlando is even capable of acquiring him.

Also, I don’t necessarily see a Luka type player in this draft outside of Zion and possibly Barrett.

I have no problem with anything WeHam have or have not done so far.

We all want change and would prefer to have it today but panic, kneejerk moves to fill short term needs are how you end up with a Dipo for Ibaka trade.

The trade, draft pick or free agent you need isn’t alway there. I like they we are showing more patience. But yes, ultimately it is their job to put us in a position to make those trades, find those draft wins and sign quality free agents. Patience has a limit. For me, that ends at the trade deadline of year 3.
