Win now or tank ?
The Magic is giddy with two home wins, but was awful on the road.
Do you want a 38 win #8 seed. Or trade the roster away to tank for a top 4 draft slot.

Weltman won't tank that hard. Maybe if by the deadline we are on a big losing streak he'll tap out and cash in some chips, but by then it's too late.

In the new lottery odds, this is actually not correct.
But to be clear: I am anti-Tank.

Re: Win now or tank ?
I couldn't care less about this team as currently constructed.
If we make the playoffs, we lose in 4 or 5 games. Boring.
At least the last time we were mediocre, we had a superstar in T-Mac - and Grant Hill 'maybe' coming back - so we could always hold out hope that we were just 1 or 2 pieces away from being great. But with this team, we've got no all-stars, no superstar - just a couple of 'kinda good' players (and Vuc).
And 'kinda good' gets boring quick.

Those options are a bit too absolute for me. I align with the belief that a star is the most important part to building a contender, but I don’t trust this team’s ability to tank and successfully land that player in the draft. I see the playoffs as offering great value to our young guys, and upping the value of all our players and team in the eyes of the rest of the league. Hopefully that can help lead us towards acquiring a star.

Re: Win now or tank ?
The worst the Magic could finish at this point is 6th best lotto odds. They already have 19 wins. The absolute worst case scenario for the Magic over the last 39 games is something horrific is like 5-34 and that would only happen if Vucevic misses the rest of the season.
But even if they do that (which they won't) that would still put them at 24 wins. Cleveland, Phoenix, Chicago, New York and Atlanta aren't reaching 24 wins.
Frankly, it's too late to truly tank or even really be sellers. They're not going to be able to lose their way to the very bottom at this point.

Re: Win now or tank ?
I find it interesting that OP termed it "A star is all that matters."
If a star were truly guaranteed by losing, I'd be open to it; but it's not. If there's one thing we should have learned over the past five years its that losing doesn't guarantee a star.
In any case, based on where we are, I'm all for a playpff push. As much as people here have bitched about this season, we
re on track to win 10 more games than last year, which is *never* something to be sad about - it's a huge improvement.

Re: Win now or tank ?
should have tanked last year when every possible wind was blowing favourably (impossible amount of injuries, better draft odds, worst coach ever, no team with abysmal record, "evaluation" year as in card blanch from ownership to the management to do whatever they want) and doncic was screaming in our faces that he was a generational prospect. we messed that up pretty badly.
only way forward left for this team is a slow upward climb and that fits better to management's style anyway. what do you think these guys are going to do with draft picks.

Earlier in the year I was down to win but I'm still team win now. It will take years to undo what Henny did to this franchise.

I am thrilled to consider a 38-win season and an #8 seed.

Do we even have a choice at this point? We're too late to jump on the tank train, unless we want another 6-8 pick. I say we tweak the lineup a little bit (DSJ or Lin), and push for playoff experience and better team morale!
Do not max Vuc!

Re: Win now or tank ?
If only the NBA world were as easy as this poll. Looking back at the top 10 picks of the last 2 NBA drafts how many stars are there? Out of 20 players I got one clear "star" in Doncic and a few players with potential to be stars in Tatum, Fox, Ayton and Jaren Jackson. Interesting 2 of the best players from these drafts would be Donovan Mitchell (#13 2017 and Kuzma #27 2017). So, basically, your poll sets up a false equivalency -- that being making the playoffs makes a team less likely to get a star. In the case of the Magic I think making the playoffs actually puts us in the best position to attract a quality FA (say, Kemba for example) whereas missing the playoffs does not really get us any closer to a star at all.
