I'm not a doc but have been reading a lot about it. It isn't normal at all to have surgery on it, but Jrue Holiday did on Feb 24th, 2014. He started the first game of the following season.
The reasons for surgery, according to what I saw, were individuals with high risk. Could be a variety of reasons on the individual or the sport, as well as the type of fracture it was.
He should be ready for opening day 2019, but will not play again this season. Welham should get an injury exception and sign a vet off the waiver wire with his money. Kanter perhaps?

Entering next year with (hopefully) healthy Fultz and Bamba will be fun.
Also Bamba had surgery? Bad sign? I thought they will just let it heal ? Does that mean injury is more serious ?

I'm not in denial or anything, if he had surgery he had surgery. But I'm just saying, I can't find any information on it.
