Hypothetical: Vuc and Ross walk - what FA's do we chase?

Imagining that WeHam aren't prepared to offer Vuc and Ross deals that will keep them in town, leaving us with close to $25M in cap space, what FA's would you target, how much would you offer them, what are the chances you think they'd sign with us, and why?

The Roster
Bamba/
Isaac/
Gordon/Iwundu
Fournier/Frazier
DJ/Fultz/Briscoe

example,

Oubre Jr
$17M/year, 4 years
50% chance he takes it, or that Phoenix match it.
Why: Young, shooter/slasher who can get to the FT line, can make passes and be a playmaker, can defend (averaging 1.6spg and 1bpg since joining Phx). Since joining Phoenix, his numbers have been on a steady rise every month, with increasing USG. look -

Dec: 27mpg, 13.8ppg, 3.9rpb, 0.8apg, 58%ts, 20.8usg
Jan: 28.2mpg, 16ppg, 4.7rpb, 1.7apg, 55%ts, 25.0usg
Feb: 31.7mpg, 18.1ppg, 5.3rpb, 1.7apg, 56%ts, 23.7usg
Mar: 30.8mpg, 19.5ppg, 6.5rpb, 1.78apg, 56%ts, 26.8usg

Is he on track to be a star? Not likely, but he could become a certifiable #2 scorer.

If they both walk, you immediately stretch Mozgov and chase D’Angelo Russell.

Who do we chase? I don't think if Vuc walks anyone of Star quality would really want to come here... I'm thinking most likely sign guys like Rozier or Oubre Jr. who will most likely be the most realistic targets. They'll probably command 15 to 20 plus million a year on the market...

So here's the thing, if we actually get Russell, then great. I'm thrilled.

But if we let Vooch and Ross walk and either don't get anybody or, worse, make a Biz-type overpay, then that would be a disaster.

So how likely are we really to get Russell or a player of similar quality in FA? What are the chances that a player of that level will want to come to the Vooch-less Magic?

Oubre Jr. is going to command more money than that... A young shooter who is long/athletic is going to ask for at least 15 million... That's a delusional scenario (IMO). Plus, this clogs the SF position which AG plays... With the money he makes and what Oubre makes they're going to have to move one of them.

No chance Brooklyn lets him walk. They can afford whatever we offer and MUCH more.

Players I would like us to really look at by position:

PG:
Devin Harris (don't even know if PG will be a need; I'm comfortable with Fultz-DJ-Briscoe going into next season)
Trey Burke
Tyreke Evans
Rubio

Wing/Forward:
VC
Danny Green
DeMarre Carroll
Jeremy Lamb
Wayne Ellington
Wesley Matthews
Wilson Chandler
Furkan Korkmaz
Rodney Hood
Rudy Gay
Trevor Ariza

C:
DeAndre Jordan
Tyson Chandler
Joakim Noah
Richaun Holmes

he isnt really that good a shooter though. career 42% from the field, 32% from 3. and he put in $17mil/yr for Oubre

Yeah my fault... He's a decent shooter who has picked it up recently... Still kind of a questionable move since him and AG play the same position... With both guys making that sort of money I cant imagine AG still being here and having 35+ million tied up in one spot.

Most likely not, but we’ll see if they opt to chase Kyrie, Durant or anyone else too.

If they both walk then I draft the best wing prospect available where we can (which we likely do regardless given the makeup of this clas) and then simply target strong, veteran bench depth on the free agent market. Accept what we are. We are not going to be players for the major free agents. So use that to our advantage and focus on top tier backups early while everyone goes crazy for Durant and Kyrie and others.

To follow up free agency, I would explore trades of Fournier and / or Gordon.

Caris Levert wouldn’t be a max level salary or anything but I think his deals up this summer, he was having an all-star season until he dislocated his ankle or whatever that was. Wouldn’t be a bad target.

Yeah, you'd need a list deeper than just one name (and one name which, I think Brooklyn will be desperate to retain).

Assuming the top tier stars aren't looking at us, that's going to mean sifting through the UFAs for players we can poach on good deals (that are still probably more expensive than their current team is prepared to pay).

I see Oubre as a wing, capable of playing SF or SG, so there would be room to run Bamba/Isaac/Gordon/Oubre/Fultz, for example.

He's exactly the type of guy I'd like to see the team target. Someone who can attack the rim, get to the line, make a pass and make a 3. Is he a FA? If so he'd flown under my radar, so good find!

Never mind I thought he was up this summer but I guess he has two years left. Felt like forever ago watching him at Michigan. Oh well I’m dumb.

If they choose to, I think they'll have 7 days to match any offer D'Lo receives so they should be able to sign any UFA that would sign there (KD, etc.) before matching a deal for D'Lo.

He's not a good enough playmaker/shooter to play the 2 consistently. he's averaging 1.7 APG and 32% from three like Tiderulz mentioned... He'll most likely see more minutes at the 3 because of this (IMO).

That sounds like when people once said AG couldn't play SF... now he does. Oubre has the skills for the position. Whether or not he excels is another question altogether.
