hopefully he'll be back in the summer.
Doubt we can keep MCW & DJ + Fultz.
Briscoe is a perfect 3rd PG.

Rumor has it that we will look to resign him this summer, which is great news.

It's a move at first glance I'm not a fan of, but it makes a lot of basketball sense so ultimately I do understand.

This makes sense. As bad as Grant has been he’s a warm body for the POs

At least Briscoe showed us what a average backup can do. No more Grant.

I guess that makes sense. But, it's the principle of it all. Grant is like a cockroach who just manages to keep staying alive.

I can understand the rationale, but I don't think that having this particular warm body available for the playoffs was worth giving up team control of Briscoe. Anyone can poach him now.

I think sometimes we focus too much on the future and not enough on the present. I commend Weltham for living in the now and letting the chips fall however they may.

Briscoe injected life into us, but he had no value for us for the rest of this season. He's injured. And MCW is the better player right now regardless.

I, like many, ain't a fan of Grant either, but we gotta have 3 PGs, especially since our other 2 PGs are considered mediocre at best. Only the teams with elite PGs could get away with carrying only 1 backup PG, and even that could get kind of dicey

I disagree. We had Briscoe locked up to a great contract with us and shouldnt have waived him. I get the idea of 3 pg and I agree but if there is a need for a 3rd in the playoffs, I prefer Cliff to roll the dice and let either Wes or AG run the point instead of having Grant on the floor.

Heck, isn't Caupain part of the playoff roster. I'd have him in before Grant. Smh

Unless, they have a handshake deal in place already for next season on another 2 year or multi-year contract. I think Briscoe has earned that.

I believe Caupain (and Jefferson) are our 2 way contracts, not eligible for playoffs.

Don't totally disagree with your "not having Grant on the floor" options.

With Fultz expected to be ready to go next year, He and DJ will be our 1st 2 PGs. While we may still be able to get Briscoe back, if he has a chance to be a team's backup PG, I'm glad we let him go.
I'm interested in MCW's contract, if it has a next year option? Not really discussed, just that we signed him through the end of the year. I'd think we'd at least put a Non Guaranteed option on there.
If Fultz is good to go, DJ or MCW would have trade value.

It's a shame this happened. I hope Isaiah Briscoe gets voted a full playoff share as he made a big contribution to this team after he beat out Jerian Grant to be the backup.

The move not only shows Briscoe was unlikely to be ready to play but The Magic are also thinking about future moves by not waiving Melvin Frazier or Timofey Mozgov who have a guaranteed year left on their deals. If they were cut, they would have been dead weight on the cap.

Hopefully, Briscoe will be re-signed this summer.
