What do you want our roster/starting lineup to look like at the start of next season?

Post#1 » by SOUL » Mon Apr 22, 2019 1:31 am

Simple question. Maybe go 10 deep if you want. If you want Ross or Vuc resigned, say for how long and how much you want us to pay them. Include draft picks/FA/or players you think we can trade for but please keep it realistic. Just want to see what direction people want to go in.

And no bickering/arguing. There is no "right" or "wrong" answers even if a majority here want to move in a different direction, people can still want this team built differently. I have no issue handing out warnings/3 day suspensions for arguing that devolves into name calling.

I'll answer mine in a bit!

Renounce Vuc TRoss and Iwundu puts us at 17M in Cap Space.

Starting 5 of
Fultz
NAW 16th pick 2019
Isaac
AG
Kanter FA signing 10M over 3 years.

bench of- Bamba Fournier DJ Corey Joseph or Dorian Finney Smith FA signing 3 year 6M. Then I’m drafting Okeke, Dort, Schoefield or Louis King at 46.

FA signings might change but off the top of my head those are 3 who I could see signing. Joseph & Kanter would be a tough pull IMO.

FA I would love to go after:
SG -> Jeremy Lamb, Rodney Hood, Justin Holiday
SF _> Dorian Finney-Smith
PF -> Christian Wood, JaMychal Green, Richaun Holmes
C-> If they're set on bamba birch rotation great if not: Kanter
LONG LENGTHY ATHLETIC... CAN’T SHOOT

I'm on record of saying that I think Fultz is toast and won't pan out, BUT, if we're talking an ideal world here:

Fultz
Not Fournier
Gordon
Isaac
Not Vuc but doesn't necessarily have to be Bamba

I don't really know how you get rid of Evan and Vuc and don't get "worse" next season, but it is what it is.

I like Richaun Holmes as a big man unrestricted free agent. I'm not saying he's the "answer" to plug in at center in a post-Vuc world, I'm just saying I like him as a big man free agent.

Another interesting big man is Christian Wood. I expect he played himself onto the Pelicans 19-20 roster already, but technically his contract is non-guaranteed before the first regular season game.

If the Kings are willing to shop Bogdan Bogdanovic after what might be considered a disappointing season for him (scoring up but percentages down), I'm interested in that.

It's possible that it should be dismissed as Only Against the Magic, but I think Tyler Dorsey did enough with the Grizzlies to be worth considering in restricted free agency.

None of those players I just mentioned are big time players, and Bogdanovic is the only one that would even possibly start, but I don't know if there's any point in discussing major free agents. We know who they are, but we're almost certainly not going to get them.

Players I expect to be mentioned but who I would consider to be a hard pass:

- Shabazz Napier. Team option, so he might be available. Thing is though, he has one hot stretch every season that makes people think he's good, but you need to remind yourself to go back and check his final numbers at the end of the year. He's not good.

- Nik Stauskas. I'm not actually sure if he'll be mentioned, but he might be, because he's a "shooter." The quotations are important here.

- Furkan Korkmaz. Another "shooter." Aspires to be a poor man's Evan Fournier.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Fultz
Beal (somewhat unrealistic, but what I'd want)
JI
AG
Vuc

1000x upgrade over our current guard situation and takes the pressure off Vuc with Beal as primary scorer and Fultz as the primary playmaker. Get it done, WeHam!

Based off not getting a deal with Vuc or Ross that makes keeping them worth it. I don't value the center position at all and I don't want to spend more.

Fultz
Fournier
Isaac
AG
Bamba

Bench

DJ
#16 pick
Bazemore
Aminu/Ed Davis type of FA
Mozgov

We are not going to be good next year.

Whatever roster that doesn’t include Fournier and Augustine as starters.

Im not going to lie it will hurt not being able to continue our playoff aspirations, but we knew this from the very beginning and taking a step back to take two steps forward is only inevitable.

I don’t envision Ross nor Vucevic on this team come summer.

We’ll have a little over 16m in cap if we didn’t stretch Mozzy, smart money says we don’t.

If I’m a betting man I say we go after Jrue Holiday in trade and/or Malcom Brogdon in free agency. Beal obviously would be incredible, but not likely.

Fultz is truly the X factor here and think managment is really counting and hoping on his progress/development.
PM me if you can help a brotha finally get an AVI.

don't know how we do it but here goes....

Fultz/DJ/MCW or briscoe
Holiday/Ross/NAW
AG/Ross/NAW
Isaac/AG
Vuc/Bamba(no birch let him walk)

I have a good feeling about Fultz, i think he's going to bounce back in a big way, and that will put DJ right where he belongs back on the bench. Don't know how we get Fournier off the team but i want him gone in the worst way and would love Jrue Holiday to step in the role at the SG. He would be that secondary ball-handler in the starting lineup that we need and he can pass and shoot two things Fournier knows nothing about. #16 pick Nickeil-Alexander Walker would be nice off the bench, can shoot pass and defend so i replace Inwundu with NAW. Isaac isn't going anywhere and i don't think AG is either, the question is what are we going to do with Vuc and Ross?

Getting to the playoffs this year was like getting out of prison, don't want to go back....as in go back to being the very bottom of the barrel if we let Vuc and Ross walk. The fans were able to taste the playoffs this season, i think the goal is to build off of this year and be back in the playoffs next season and i think that would be impossible if we let Vuc and Ross walk. Bamba isn't ready to take over yet, he needs more time so playing behind Vuc could be beneficial. Unfortunately or fortunately birch gotta go for me to free up time for bamba.

i) I am assuming Vučević resigns and Ross does not. Iwundu resigns.

ii) There is a major choice between Briscoe vs. Carter-Williams; UNLESS Augustin is traded. I think he must be. So: both are resigned.

iii) in a trade of Augustin, the Magic need a PF. For the purpose of building a roster, I will call it a SnT for Frank Kaminsky. (The Hornets need a PG and cannot afford Kaminsky moving forward).

iv) by NBAdraft.net: Orlando drafts Romeo Langford and Eric Paschall; Paschall becomes a 2-way player with Caupain.

v) Birch, Grant, and Martin are all non-Magicians next year.

vi) Amile Jefferson gets promoted from 2-way to deep bench.

vii) Orlando welcomes a healthy Mozgov to get deep-bench minutes.

This results in small incremental changes to a roster that looks like:

Fultz/Carter-Williams/Briscoe
Fournier/Langford
Gordon/Iwundu/Frazier
Isaac/Kaminsky/Jefferson
Vučević/Bamba/Mozgov

That looks a lot like a 41-46 win team.

In conclusion: this roster was always about building to a 2020 offseason FA splash. I see no reason at all to derail that.

Hmmm

1) resign Vučević on 4 years $85-90M , in perfect world last year team's option
2) think twice what to offer to Ross
3) offer Brogdon contract
4) if he ducks offer Jermy Lamb contract
5) ADD SHOOTERS
6) ADD SHOOOTERS
7) ADD SHOOTERS

No, really, you can find guys like CJ Miles, Korkmaz,McDermott, Alec Burke, Hood that can give you quality 12-20 mpg and make shots to open space for others. Magic biggest issue in playoffs is that they have litearlly nobody that they can insert in starting lineup to cure fact that Isaac, Iwundu; MCW and Birch are not being guarded outside 5 feet.

As terrible as DJ and Evan are ,they still get "shooters" threatman and command attention of their defenders. In mean time ,guys mentioned above are being MCW-ed. ( main reason why he is on exit doors of nba ).
When playoffs roll, floor shrinks under non shooters. You can get away with it in regular season , in playoffs teams like Pacers, Magic, Pistons and OKC simply suffer from lack of outside threats.
Magic also have unique set of problems with lack of ballhandling....

Fultz/DJ
Brogdon/NAW (Or other sg at 16)
Isaac/Ross (15 mill a year)
AG/ (Trade)
Bamba/Birch

I think thats probably our best bet at this point. I'm not convinced that lineup couldn't produce similar results to what we had this year and sneak us into the 6-8th spot. We would drastically upgrade our bench and add much-needed shooting. It would also be a young fun team that should be able to create havoc on the defensive end.

If there is one thing I know about this front office its that they aren't going to feel any pressure to resign Vuc at all costs. They have made extremely cautious signings since coming here and have had zero issues with taking a patient approach. They took a center 6 overall last year and I think that solidified the fact that they are willing to move on from Vuc, even despite his career year. I don't think anyone should be surprised if we let him walk this summer and upgrade other spots of the roster and bank on AG/Isaac taking jumps and Fultz/Bamba getting healthy and contributing.

I think Fourniers contract can be moved. He can still be an effective player in the right role for someone and is just entering his prime. I'm not saying we would get value back for him but I'm not under the belief with only 2 years on his contract left that we would have to attach a pick.

Stretch Mozgov.

Max DLo.

Resign Vuc. And TRoss

Vuc/Bamba
Isaac/
Gordon/Ross
Fournier/Ross
DLo/DJ

Not even considering Fultz atm. Better build a team without considering he is fully healed to start the season.

and then you woke up

See there's this thing called cap space, that we dont have to make this even remotely possible.

Events that would need to happen for us to open max cap space.

We do not resign Vucevic

We do not resign Ross

Stretch Mosgov

Dump Augustine or Fournier as a pure salary dump (obviously Fournier would be ideal in this situation, but Augustine probably nets us a small asset).

Now ask yourself what player would want to play for us when we just let go of our all-star and we're heading towards a 30 win season?

Apparently Orlando had an opportunity to dump Fournier at deadline and opted not to (Kyler).

Kinda gives me "realistic" hope that we look to deal him this summer and not have to mortgage half of our roster/assets to do so.
