I find this hilarious for some reason. How do you guys think this will go? Curious the thoughts from my magic faithful.

He was the worst coach of the rebuild which is saying A LOT. I'm surprised he got another head coaching job. Maybe he wont be as terrible in LA with a superstar, but he's bad.

I'm more puzzled why the just HAD to attach Jason Kidd to the position. It was rumored to be part of the reason Lue soured on them.

Vogel aged 10 years in 2 with the magic. He's about to take the stress to the next level. I don't know if he's gonna make it through the contract.

I guess the theory is that between Vogel and Kids they'll both be able to keep the team in check and focused on defense. Kidd could also be regarded as a mentor type for Ball. Kidd might even be there to focus on bringing the young kids up to scratch faster, whilst Vogel works with the vets.

Plus, it helps to have an assistant coach capable of stepping up as head coach once you fire the head coach as a scape goat for poor performances. Haha.

well, he is only staying in Lakers for 3 years then. It would be funny if LeBron wants out any time soon and they will have to have a Dwight situation.

Apparently Lue soured on them because Lue wanted a 5 year contract, and Lakers wanted to give him only 3 - as long as Lebron’s contract.

Seems like a pretty uninspiring hire. And even weirder knowing that he'll have his replacement on his bench the whole time. The Lakers are a mess of a franchise right now.

Allegedly, they also didn't want Lue to pick his assistent coaches .
As we see with Kidd hire, that rumor it true.

Kid and Vogel together can't coach highschool team. They are so bad when it comes to in game menagment, Xs and Os , drawing plays, having advanced mind about basketball that it's laughable that they could land new coaching gig after their last NBA fiascos.

Vogel still lives in 90s where he wants to play as much bigs as possible and with teams shooting long 2s, Kidd pretty much had similar team that MIke B. has now with Bucks. Bucks have now 4th best offensive rating and the best defense in basketball.
How they did last year? 9th in offense, 19# on defense.
Year before even worst .
Not to mention that with Budenholzer they went from Kidd's usual 35-44 wins to 60 wins in one year , and from random first round exists all the time to ECF . Matter of fact they got there in 9 of minimum required 8 games.

Best of luck to Frank V!

That job seems like it can be a viper's nest, though. However, I have actually believed that Vogel is capable of doing a good job in the next situation he's in. I know he gets a lot of criticism around here for the job he did (and rightfully so), but our roster wasn't exactly the greatest. I always thought his Indiana teams were some of the better coaching jobs of this decade, hence I was hopeful when we hired him (the Dutch last name didn't hurt either). Hopefully he chose his situation wisely this time.

On the one hand, it seems like a tough gig, on the other hand the Lakers seem to be in complete disarray currently; so perhaps the only way to go is up?

I’m wishing Frank a lot of luck because he’s going to need it.

Glad to see he’s still a spineless worm though. How much of a cuck do you have to be to willingly allow your inevitable replacement to be forced onto your staff?

I guess his rationale is that there’s only 30 of these jobs and it’s better to have one that not have one even if the circumstances are less than ideal.

Lue is nuts to make this kind of demand, he is awful, he should be happy to get a 3-year deal for any team, especially for the Lakers, that will fire you in 2 years and then you can sign to be a Ast. Coach for another team earning double check.

He has $15M to recived from Cavs
Taking on Lakers is career suicide at this point

Tyronn Lue was never the coach of the Cavs, Lebron was. Tyronn Lue knew that, David Blatt didn’t. That’s why he was fired. I like to compare Tyronn Lue to the fake car driver in the Men in Black films. He was hired to stand on the sideline, point and argue with refs.

Good luck to Vogel.

He will make a solid assistant coach to Lebron James.

I expect him to do a decent job in that scenario. He failed in Orlando because he just isn’t a developmental coach. Cliff is and has already done great for us but we have seen in Charlotte that there is a hard cap on how far his style can take us. Vogel has a different approach which has proven successful when he has the star power.

The Lakers however are in a no man’s land. They have Lebron but they are also trying to develop a number of young players ... most importantly Lonzo. For that reason I think the addiction of Jason Kidd is great.

Ultimately is comes down to chemistry. If Vogel and Kidd can clearly define their respective roles without stepping on toes and Lebron gets on board then it will work out well. If not ... they will be looking for another coach soon.

Lakers were one of the very few teams that actually needed a center and had cap space. Vucevic’s top possibility for big paycheck just hired a coach that he dramatically regressed under and didn’t take advantage of his best skills.

If accepting $10M+ over just 3 years to do something I enjoy doing for free as a hobby makes you a “spineless worm” or a “cuck” then sign me up!

Things didn’t end well for him in Orlando. You have to bet on yourself sometimes. Even if you know you’re a stop gap coach, you can still get back out there and audition for the other teams that will have openings over these next few years. If he doesn’t do this he will be forgotten in favor of young assistants soon enough.
