the Magic also tendered qualifying offers to Khem Birch and Amile Jefferson, making both restricted free agents come June 30th.

I have feeling that we r not prepared to offer more than 2yrs deal to Vuc and will keep birch instead

Renounce Vuc and Ross

Go after bogdan

Brogdon, dj, fultz
Evan, bogdan, frazier
Ag, iwundu, chuma
Isaac, ag, chuma
Birch, mo, moz

What happens with Nikola Vucevic is the big question.

Given how Birch contributed last year and his lo Qualifying offer, this was a no-brainer.

I doubt both Vucevic and Khem Birch both return with Mo Bamba on the roster. Even if The Magic knew they were going to re-sign Vucevic, you still make Birch The QO as insurance or to maybe sign and trade him.

It is interesting that they made Amile Jefferson a Qualifying Offer. He's a tweener and it will be interesting to see if he gets offered a chance to make the 15 man roster.

We are less than a week away from when that opening Free Agent Bell rings.

I wonder if we still try to bring back Martin at a number lower than his cap hold.

Giving them a QO is a no brainer.

Their cap hold isn't much more than an empty roster spot charge. It secures Bird Rights on both, allowing them to re-sign them over the salary cap + it gives them flexibility if Vucevic doesn't resign.

Since they didn't announce a QO for Martin or Grant, Jefferson will probably be re-signed and take over Martin's role. Its possible Martin is re-signed for a minimum deal after the dust settles...but looks like he'll be renounced likely regardless.

I love Birch. I hope we can bring him back.

Birch needs to stay. He could come in for Bamba and we wouldnt have to really change how we play all that much, which is great.

No Qualifying Offers were made to Jarell Martin, Jerian Grant or Troy Caupain.

Grant not detting one was pretty much decided mid season.

Caupain is playing with Washington's Summer League Team which says it all there.

Martin has a chance to return but given how it would probably be for less than the QO, they probably will not make him one.

Like Keith Smith mentioned on Twitter, it's telling that Grant and Martin did not get QO's announced with Birch and Jefferson.

Birch is good enough to be a starter in the NBA. Hope we bring him back and have him start until Mo is ready.

I'm an Amille Jefferson fan too. I think he's a legit back-up.

Kind of suprised Martin didn't get one. Not a huge fan but he's not terrible and can be available until Okeke can play

It's possible this is true.

The Magic thus have not left their cap holds, basically meaning no major FA signing is imagined by management (maybe a trade upgrade, but this early eliminates a major FA upgrade).

Well he definitely won't if you talk about him like that

Martin hasn't shown anything last year, I would spend our money on another PF, someone that can contribute.

Long term, yes, but we still need a backup 4 this year. Though we didn't extend him a QO, I could still see us make a pitch to retain him on a 1yr deal for cheap. Not making him restricted, allows us to keep the books clear and gives him the chance to secure his bag. If that doesnt happen, and with CO out for a while, come back with the magic and try to improve your stock for next summer.

I can see this happening too. It's just that the QO Martin would get is probably more than what he would get on the market.

Maybe they are just going to roll with Amile as the back up PF?
He'd slide down the depth chart a bit easier than maybe a more vet player when Okeke is ready?

I like this idea if we bring a scoring wing/guard to our 2nd unit, so it wouldn't demand scoring from our backup PF. Amile knows how to rebound, so he could do the dirty job.

If Mozgov is healthy, Orlando can no longer afford Birch.
