NBA implements in-game challenge flags for coaches for 2019-20 season

Coaches will get only one challenge per game, whether it is successful or unsuccessful, according to the memo. They can use it to challenge only called fouls, goaltending, basket interference and plays when the ball is knocked out of bounds, the memo says. The NBA has tested this version of the challenge system in the G League over the past two seasons.
Coaches must have a timeout remaining to use a challenge. The team must call a timeout immediately after the event it would like to challenge, and the coach must "twirl his/her index finger toward the referees" to signal for the challenge, the memo states. If the challenge is successful, the team retains the timeout it used to stop play. If the challenge is unsuccessful, it loses that timeout.

Let's go! This has the chance of being a game changer for small market teams that constantly get screwed by calls. Hopefully the one or two call reversals that go against the team that got screwed would be enough for the team that deserves to win get the win.

However, I really wish the NBA would allow replays on if it was really a foul or not, whether you have a challenge left or not. Gotta leave some room to fix some games successfully though.

Why should you lose your challenge if you were successful? You should only lose it if you were unsuccessful. Stupid.

Because coaches would just keep doing it until they fail.
Playoff games would last forever.

they need to move the video reviews to an off court umpire though who has final say, having the on court umps run off to the side and mess around queuing up footage then debating with each other wastes way too much time. just have an extra video ref or let the video center make the actual call instead of just queuing up angles

if they want correct calls you should not lose it when your review is correct. the onus should be on the umpires to up there game and stop changing the rules from game to game and start following a set ruleset

Games would just last too long.

I like the idea of this to be honest - umpires aren't perfect and anything that helps them and the teams achieve the correct calls isn't a bad thing to me.

Yea if coaches have unlimited challenges so long as they're right it could result in prolonged games (i mean it'd be great because then the calls would be right, but there's gotta be a balance). My guess is the end of games will get a little longer because in the last 2-3 minutes of a game each coach will wind up challenging a call.
It's also just unrealistic to expects refs to get every call right. The players are too crafty and there's too much acting to get it right every time.
What i'm hoping is that we see teams use it when a guy flops and gets the call and the review is clear enough to call it the other way.

called fouls, goaltending, basket interference and plays when the ball is knocked out of bounds
Fouls could cause some controversy because they're so subjective, but I think for the other things it's definitely going to be a good thing. I'm sure every coach will keep theirs until the final few minutes of the game given how many 50/50 plays happen then.

Which is what SHOULD happen. Make the right call first time.

You really need to get a life!
This is only a message board and it has nothing to do with the grand scheme of things.
And I’m 100% sure Hitler was worse then J-Ragg!
