Good to see him back. Bigs get hurt all the time, so we needed a reliable 3rd string C in case Vuc or Bamba miss some games... or if Bamba surprisingly gets traded. Birch might be the best insurance policy C in the league.

Good news. Birch deserves it more than anyone.

Hopefully Bamba can remain the primary backup option.

I like the signing but Khem will eat into Bambas minutes this year. I’d be willing to bet on that. Not saying that it won’t be deserved as that is the nature of the game when you are fighting for the playoffs and have a raw center like Bamba but I do think it’s unfortunate. Bamba still just dosent look ready defensively and is already sitting out for soreness after playing limited minutes in a summer league game.

I loved Mo as a prospect, but this truly is turning into a shaky pick in my eyes. Isaac is the only pick at this point that I agreed on and still do.

I get Weltman has this grand vision to build this team with long armed high character players but I’m not sure it’s going to work out in today’s NBA the way they want it to.

Maybe they get lucky and hit big on Fultz but if not I think they will be in trouble.

The question will be whether Birch continues to hold down his role as back up center. If we're being honest, he actually earned those minutes over Bamba last season and I would assume that he has the right to those minutes until Bamba proves that he can be more productive in training camp and practice.

And, if the #6 pick can't outplay Khem Birch for those minutes, then Weltman, Hammond, and all of us will just have to accept and take that L.

Signing a 15th man for the minimum of $898,310 will put the Magic over the luxury tax by about 223K IF Birch signed for a flat 3M I believe.

Now of course they can make a move or moves during the season to get back under pretty easily if that's the case.

YES! This FO gets it...great usage of cap to maximize asset accumulation while building a quality context for the young core to develop in.

I feel like the Magic are poised to make a trade for a quality backcourt player sometime in near future. Maybe its D'Angelo Russell or Beal...they are stocked with good variety of contracts and types of players to fit many trade scenarios.

Say what you want to say about WeHam but they had an amazing off season.

Didn’t completely overpay for Vucevic and was able to construct a front loaded trade-able contract.

Resigned 6MOTY candidate for below market value.

Now Birch where rumored projections had him pegged potentially getting offers near 8m a year.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Depending on how the Magic's structured Birch's contract, I believe they *could* have enough room to sign a 15th man and stay under the tax.
