The Magic have withdrawn their Qualifying Offer to Amile Jefferson.

This is probably to allow him to pursue other opportunities outside of a Two-Way Contract as if The Magic can afford a 15th under the Luxury Tax, it will not be a big.

Curious if we will sign Jeffries of wait until training camp to fill the last slot.

Probably will make Jeffries a 2 way and then give him the last roster eventually so it’s cheaper. Or just give Jeffries the spot outright, I think they can just barely afford it.

Big fan of Amile, but this makes sense.

Jared Harper is still available I think. He was teammates with Chuma last year and is playing for the Suns summer league.

Amile Jefferson probably wants a shot at being on a 15 man roster. That was not going to happen here.

DaQuan Jeffries should get one of the Two-Way deals. I feel the other should be for a point guard who can be called up to the 15 man roster as an emergency backup.

Magic had to pull the offer because if he signed it, we'd be a tax team. No big deal now, but when we're paying the tax in a few years for JI and hopefully Fultz, we would've been subject to the repeaters tax.

Numbers/position game. I'm sure he'll get a chance elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure what Jefferson was given was a 2-way Qualifying Offer. If he accepted that QO, he would have been signing a one year 2-way contract, which doesn't count against the cap. If another team gave him an offer sheet it would have been an NBA contract which the Magic would have the choice of matching or not.

The Magic have 14 roster spots filled and are $0.61m below the tax. Its very likely that one of the new contracts is slightly different from (rounded) numbers reported to allow the Magic to fill the 15th roster spot to a minimum salary contract ($0.95m).

The Magic are in no danger of repeater tax.

They will be well below the luxury tax next season and won't be anywhere near the luxury tax in the future. Even in 21-22 when JI and Fultz are restricted free agents, if they both get max deals, the Magic will still be $8m below luxury tax.

Title should be edited.

We just resigned for a year. Seems odd. Does that mean no Jeffries? If so I’ll be livid.
