https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27189056/nba-power-rankings-league-best-teams-now"Will the Magic take the next big step forward after their first playoff appearance in seven years, or will 2019-20 be a consolidation season? Orlando is loaded up front, with power forwards and centers in deep supply (and that was the case before they signed Al-Farouq Aminu and drafting Chuma Okeke, who is recovering from an ACL injury). The Magic's fortunes rest on their capacity to get more out of their guards, with the highest ceiling belonging to Markelle Fultz. The Magic are cautiously optimistic the former No. 1 overall pick could give them some of the perimeter shot creation they desperately need. -- Arnovitz
Key additions: Al-Farouq Aminu
Key subtractions: Timofey Mozgov"

Mozgov listed as the key subtraction tells you all you need to know about this.

It has us 9th in the East.
I really think they aren't giving Kawhi's departure enough weight. Not to mention Danny Green.
Detroit Has Blake and Drummond, but they have a worse PG situation that us. Glad we don't have to count on Rose.
Not sure how Miami is ahead of us, Butler- Richardson are pretty close to the same, Butler is just more volume.
While Bam is going to be a good center, Whiteside got a LOT of rebounds.
Goran is just a year older.

Outside of maybe Detroit and Miami I don’t really see an issue with this ranking... seems pretty spot on actually. Brooklyn might also be a little higher than I’d place them without KD.

We either put it all together with internal improvement + Fultz and get a 4-5 seed or Vuc and Ross fall back to Earth, we get nothing from our guards again, the forward spot is a glut and everybody here will be in an all out war.

This is ranking teams according to tv viewership and popularity. Major networks will prop up teams to cities with more viewers tied to baseball and football. Unfortunately Magic is not in the universe of this big networks. Sports on a city without other major sports like baseball or football.
This ranking is not accurate at all. ESPN credibility has long been gone. Arnovitz never had predicted who will win an nba champion in the past.

I could see Orlando at #3 and also #10. I have no idea where this season will lead.

I wish Buddy Dyer didn't poop the bed getting the Rays to move here.

Agreed. We had a real chance against Toronto but Kawhi carried them. I think we win a series without Leonard/Green. I guess it depends on if Siakam turns into a superstar or not.

Yeah, even if Siakam(who I love, picked him up way early in Fantasy) turns into a Superstar, they still don't have Kawhi. It'd be like they don't have Siakam.
That was the issue, they had 2 guys playing both ends of the court. Now they have 1.
They should sell now on Lowery & Serge.

If the post-Simmons trade team from last year shows up we'll be a Top 4 seed in the East (I think we went something like 18-8 after the trade?). If we come back down to earth a bit (safer bet), we could fall in that 6-10 range.
I think the ranking doesn't take into account how we finished the year, but also not sure it should, lol. We could've just been hot. I'd say the ranking is on the more conservative side, but i don't blame them.

I'm glad for the rating, hopefully it will keep the team hungry.
I'm setting my expectations on 6 seed, and 45 wins.
I think really, after MIL, BOS and PHI it's wide open.

The statistical models are assuming all teams will be fully healthy all year. For me, the Magic "went hot" to close out the season, in part, because the starters of the team were i) quite a bit healthier than many other teams and ii) lucked out that Carter-Williams competently replaced Briscoe, and that Birch could play over Bamba.
Will Orlando be as healthy next year as it was this last year? If yes, the team will win more than 42 games. The Magic bench is a lot better this year than last (if it is healthy). Seriously we have Aminu over Simmons, Fultz over Grant, and Bamba/Birch over Mozgov. That is huge increase in depth.

Good points
1. I'd take a healthy Chief over a healthy Martin
2. we didn't have Fultz last year, so even if we don't have him this year, no difference
3. we are set up a bit better this year to survive injuries.
Only having to introduce 1 rotation player to the coach's schemes is awesome.

I don't get the Pacers ranking - -- they really lost a A Lot: Bojan Bogdanovic, Darren Collison, Wesley Matthews, Thaddeus Young, Cory Joseph, Tyreke Evans. Collison averaged 28 minutes per game for them. Young averaged 31 minutes per game. Boganovic 32 minutes per game and 18 ppg. Cory Joseph 25 minutes per game.
So get this -- in terms of minutes played last year -- the Pacers lost their #1, #2, #3, #5 and #7 players - that is crazy. Of their top 7 players by minutes the ONLY 2 back are Myles Turner and Sabonis. Yes, I know they added Brogdon and Lamb and Dipo should be back around sometime in December (maybe) but I think losing over half of their team (and especially Bojan) is really going to hurt them.
I don't get their ranking well over us at all.

Pretty fair rankings. Detroit and Miami have more star power (even if it's older and out of prime star power), so I'm not surprised they pip us in power rankings.
But I imagine we'll be right in the middle of seeding battles with both at the end of the season.
If we do better, even better. And that's certainly possible with our continuity.

I'd say we are better than the Raptors, but behind Bucks, 76ers, Nets and Celtics and same tier as Pacers, Heat and Pistons.
