Brazil just lost to USA, no big news lol

However, maybe it's just me, but I believe that Leandrinho Barbosa could still be playing in the NBA, he would have been amazing last year in our bench with TRoss, he is exactly what we need if Fultz doesn't pan out (again).

...are you saying that Patty Mills, M Delavadova, Joe Ingles, Aaron Baynes and Andrew Bogut aren't good NBA defenders?

Let's not pretend the NBA isn't a different animal. There's a lot more athleticism on an NBA court and that is Evan's biggest weakness. I'll be happy if he just gets his shooting back on track.

Drops 45 on the USA..... "Well.... it's not our best talent.... they are all 2nd and 3rd tier players... can't wait for him to go up against a real NBA team.

It's not hate, it's the truth. Fournier can be taken out of a game by a longer athletic player.

Hopefully Mitchell doesn't guard him when they play USA. Remember the last game they played against each other?

Why can't Giannis dominate even more, if he is as good as he looks in NBA and players he face are less athletic? Him and Gobert look like garbage whole tournement long. Giannis always looks like garbage under FIBA rules because he is not allowed to make 6 steps drives.
Difference between most of role players and half of the "star players" in nba is just how refs treat them.

Look and compare Blake Griffin and Gordon. Aside from fact that one draws 7 fouls a game and other 3 there is little difference. Now you can make argument that drawing fouls is skill, but most of calls starts get are calls role players don't.
Harden is averaging 35 ppg because he sleeps on FT line. 11 a game? League average per team is 23 yet one player draws 40% of what most teams do? If he is Shaq or Wilt it would make SOME sense, but he is not. He is mediocre athlete that flops and iniciates most of the fouls by throwing arms and body at defender ,and is being rewarded for that.

If Evan last year draw 2 fouls more (like he did 2 years ago ) his TS would be identical to his career averages, but again, FTs and nba is really, really strange part of nba. Every time i watch Blazers it's funny what they call for Lillard and on other play McCullum is getting killed under rim and they simply won't call a foul.

Mitchell is 6'3. How is he longer?
Btw he is having terrible world cup
10 ppg
42%FG
32% for 3
2 free throws whole tournament long. Guy plays like poor man Joe Harris.

FIBA is just different in general. I'm just saying, anybody expecting Evan to all of a sudden come in and start averaging 20PPG based off his FIBA play are setting themselves up for disappointment.

He was 2,2 ppg shy from 20 ppg year ago on 57,7% TS and 53,8 eFG .
There is good chance that if he is healthy that he will bounce back to 17-19 ppg this year, and he looks really good at world cup, 5th in ppgs, 46% FG, 42,9% for 3 and almost 5 FTA a game. Promising.

Fournier dropped 24pts / 7reb on Donavan Mitchell in the first of their two meetings last season.

Also, that hot-take that Fournier gets "taken out by longer athletic players" isn't true:

If you look at his best games last season, the majority of those he was being defended by "long and/or athletic" defenders, many of them primarily on the floor specifically for their defense:

Spoiler:

...AND if you look at his worst games last year, many of those came against smaller non-defensive types:

Spoiler:

56% of Fournier's shots last season were either "open" (nearest def 4-6') or "wide open" (nearest def +6')...that indicates to me that for the most part it wasn't about who was defending Fournier, but rather it was more about his shot just being off last season.

Offensively, I don't see how anybody could make a coherent case that Fournier isn't having a stellar World Cup so far. Defensively, he get blown by quicker guys, his feet get heavy and he allows opponents work space around him. But he's in the argument for Offensive Player of he Tournament (if such a thing exists) so far.

That can only be good for ORL. He's going to come into the season with huge confidence. That'll be a huge help for a team that's surely going to try to take advantage of the slow starts of a lot of rebuilt teams.

And Pepe is spot on about selective foul calling. It's this surreal a game within a game that you can only influence if you suddenly become famous.

People are talking about a bounce back year...or a "career year" for Evan Fournier, not a career year for LeBron.

They aren't just basing that on FIBA, but also on what direction he was trending before last season.

Fournier put up 17.8 ppg a year ago and 17.2 ppg the year before that. A bounce back season would be for him to get back to that 17-18ppg range

...a first year of peak prime + contract year bump into the 18-20 ppg range isn't some out of reach fantasy.

FIBA rules are much harder to score under than NBA rules for a number of reasons.

I swear this is the only board where a player can have a really good tournament and it's not viewed as a good thing. Fournier balling out for France can only be a positive for the Magic next season.
