My initial Fultz thoughts: He looks similar to when he was playing the Sixers minus the hitch in his shot. He's doing all the same things. He reads the floor well, finishes in traffic, can get into the paint, makes plays for others. He's still hesitant to shoot at times. Defenders are playing way off him and daring him to shoot from the 3 point line. At some point of his career, he'll have to take those shots and prove that he can hit them. He seems more comfortable with the mid-range game. Maybe he's just learning where to pick his spots or maybe he doesn't trust his 3 point shot yet. Time will tell. Either way, it's good to see him play. His upside is still worth the investment. He's going to be someone the Magic try to develop over a few years.
I understand why he's coming off the bench now. There's a comfort level with his own game that he has to find. And then a comfort level with his teammates that DJ Augustin has cultivated over his entire career. Fultz effectively is a rookie point guard and he looks like one at the moment. You can only hope he gets better as the season goes on, but the talent is there and undeniable.
