AG MIA \ Ross Daydreaming?

Did he join the witness protection program?
So where did he go?
I thought this was supposed to be his year?
After a rough start, he now looks scared to try anything on offense.
What’s your thoughts?
And also...
Did Ross forget how to shoot because he’s thinking about how to spend all that new money?

This could be the official "Orlando's shooting SUCKS" thread.

This didn’t take long... I mean, we only lost to the reigning champions (yes, minus Kawhi) and played a good ATL team close.

Both losses on the road... but yeah, season is done. Ross played us to get paid and AG’s career is over.

Ross/AG are major concerns but what about our highest played payer that went 1-13 last night and got pulled in the 4th? Feels like he has been MIA since last regular season.

Ross is playing the same way he did last year, his shot will come around.

I didn’t say the season was over, AG was done or Ross took our money.
I asked what you though the issue was?

In fact our defense is damn good.
We are moving the ball and getting good looks.
Just not scoring.
But AG looks like he is now scared to try something on offense since the first 2 games?
And Ross is missing everything.
But yes,he is not alone.
When our shots start to fall... watch out.
But this thread was really about AG and his lack.

That's the problem when we don't have real scorers and rely so much on offensive execution. Breaking down plays against a well coached team is not enough.

I mean, I could just quote your original post if you’d like. You are correct that you didn’t directly state those things, but it doesn’t take much thought or imagination to interpret your post as “AG is broken and Ross doesn’t care now that he got paid.”

I not worried about Vucevic yet.

His shots at the rim are actually up and his midrange attempts are actually down compared to last year. 3 games in he's taking 31% of his shots at the rim, but only converting at 53%.

Last year he took 26% of his shots at the rim and converted well over 70% of them,

He's just missing easy/open shots right now. If he keeps taking these types of shots, he'll be just fine eventually.

There's a reddit conspiracy that AG got a concussion in our ATL pre-season game and him playing through it is the cause of his offensive struggles.

18/29 pre "jaw contusion" | 13/62 since.

My issue with this take is Vuc needs to learn to generate points when his shot isn't falling aka get to the line. He's never been great at getting FTs but he should be adding that to his game. Then he can shoot 1/13 from the field but still have 15 points.

Instead, when Vuc is off offensively, he's typically then off defensively and gives us very little production. Or he gets pouty and gets some technicals.

I think him forcing his way to the line will only make him efficient. What makes Vuc effective is he can space the floor and pick and pop. Making him mix it up downlow would only cause a lot of spacing issues for us. Not to mention, he is missing open shots, I think his percentages will pick up.

As far as TRoss, our off the bench offense is pretty obvious and teams simply switch it up on Tross plays. This is where Clifford has to prove he is one of the best in game adjustment coaches.

The game against the Raptors, watch how they are defending Gordon. They are forcing him to create and dribble the ball. OG defended him very well. The Raptors simply have us figured out.

The bright side out of all of this is, despite most of our shots not falling, we still manage to keep it close. I think once our shooting keeps up, this should go back to the norm. I'd rather be missing shots now, and find our rhythm on the latter part of the season.

I don't really watch any basketball other than the Magic, but how common is it for a player to only execute 2 or 3 plays and not be gameplanned by the defense? We run basically the same 2 plays for Ross and have been since Day 1 last year, why are we surprised he has no daylight? Do other players get the same treatment and they just make shots?

I get what you mean, but i would suspect those plays are flexible. Like each play have two possible outcomes. Like he can fake left, but then go right, or instead of coming off screen, he ends up cutting. I think the reason for that is because he is only good at doing certain things. He isnt really a shot creator. He is more of a come off screen type of guy. Thats why we hardly see him getting iso plays.

Well: today the Magic play one of the worst defensses in the league. Let's see if the shooting woes can be broken.

I expect at least 1 game this season, where we can't handle the physicality of Portis, Robinson, Randle & even Barrett. So i woudn't be surprised, if it happens today. At least it's a home game.

AG isn't taking bad shots either, but isn't converting anything. He's 5-15 at the rim and 1-6 from three, so 21 of his 24 shots has come from the paint or behind the three point line, which is fine, he just needs to finish.

Yea he is a career 68% finisher at the rim, so far 41% this season .
