Go to guy
Hey all! Been a while since I've last posted but still hanging around reading this forum on a daily basis!
Good to see us being relevant again and hopefully we can take the next step into real contender status. In my opinion the biggest step to take is for us to find a true go to guy. While this is nothing new, I do think that now at this stage of the rebuilding process, the need for a go to guy becomes more and more visible. I think that our core is very close to being a perfect fit with a true scorer.
When I'm talking about a go to guy, I'm talking about a player that you can trust with the ball in his hands to make a play when offense stagnates, when you need plays at the end of games and/or can get to the free throw line. For example the last two games, Young and Lowry. Teamplay made it close till the end, go to guy finishes it off. This does not have to be a so called superstar like Lebron or Curry but a Lowry or Turkoglu type would help alot.
One of the plays that really stood out to me versus Toronto was near the end where Aminu tries to take his man one on one, top of the key.. Turnover..!?! Don't get me wrong, I like the addition of Aminu, but I can't imagine that coach wanted him to be in that position at that time.
Now for the discussion I'd like to hear from you guys if you see someone within this group of players that you think could turn out to be this guy in the future. Or do you see potential around the league to fill this role? Off course that person should be attainable. Or are we good enough as is and we don't need a go to guy?
Also for discussion a poll added, 1 point down 20 sec to go. Who on this team right now do you want with the ball in his hands?

Re: Go to guy
As far as a creator it has to be Fultz, but there's still a question mark over his jumper for now. There's nobody else ideal and for that reason we should be running a play to get somebody open rather than relying on an iso.

Re: Go to guy
20 seconds to go, probably already Fultz, but for last shot Fournier if he doesnt have to dribble. Fultz hopefully in the future, in case he becomes a solid 3P shooter.

Re: Go to guy
Fultz.
No one on this team comes close to creating as well as him. Even if his jump shot is a work in progress, his ability to get to the paint, have defenses collapse and either take it to the basket or pass out to someone open is key for the last possession of the game.

Re: Go to guy
Right now it's Fournier. He's proven he can hit clutch game-winners.
Hopefully in time, Fultz.

Re: Go to guy
Fultz. He's the only guy with the skill set. There is going to be a learning process to it though, but nobody else on the team really even looks to have the promise of becoming someone that can single-handedly break down a defense with some consistency. Fournier is the guy I want taking the shot with the game on the line, but I don't want him trying to create that shot.
"Xatticus has always been, in my humble opinion best poster here. Should write articles or something."

Re: Go to guy
Fournier is the only guy on the team that can do everything. Dribble, penetrate, shoot, floaters, draw a foul, etc.

Re: Go to guy
Probably Fournier. His "clutch" stats were pretty decent last year.

Re: Go to guy
Go to guy(s) per team:
Atlanta - Young
Boston - Walker/Tatum
Charlotte - Rozier?
Chicago - Lavine
Cleveland - Love?
Detroit - Rose
Indiana - Oladipo
Miami - Butler
Milwaukee - Giannis/Middleton
Brooklyn - Kyrie
New York - Barret?
Philadelphia - Embiid/Simmons
Toronto - Siakem/Lowry
Washington - Beal
Dallas - Doncic/Porzingis
Denver - Jokic/Murray
Golden State - Curry/Klay
Houston - Westbrook/Harden
LAC - How many options do you need
LAL - Lebron/AD
Memphis - Morant?
Minnesota - Towns/Wiggins?
New Orleans - Holiday/Ingram
Oklahoma - SGA/Paul
Portland - Lillard/CJ
Phoenix - Booker
Sacramento - Fox/Bagley
San Antonio - Aldridge/Derozan/Murray?
Utah - Mitchell
Looking at this list, right now I'd say we're in the bottom 5 teams "go to guy wise".. Not good at all

Re: Go to guy
As much as it pains me to say this I think I still go with Fournier....statistically wasn't he top 5 last season in "clutch points"? That has to mean something lol.
Ross would be my second choice and close third would be Fultz

Re: Go to guy
Fournier if it's just catch & shoot. Ross/DJ if it requires any sort of dribbling.

20 seconds on the clock means it's gonna require dribbling.
I give it to Fultz to run/create the play, because he has the best chance of getting inside and getting himself a look, but also has the capacity to pass it to anyone on the team if he's created a good look for them instead of only looking for Vuc/Fournier/Ross.

Re: Go to guy
Right now...
Fultz if we need 2.
Fournier/Ross if we need 3.
Hopefully Fultz becomes both in the next year or so.

Re: Go to guy
I’m oddly confident in Fultz’s ability to dribble his way into a wide open 15 footer right now.
