I want Vuc & Evan gone too & build around our youth. But if they decide to go all in with those 2, they at least have to build a modern offense around them.
Give them shooters & ballhandlers to take pressure off them. Run a modern system. Isaac & Cliff gonna keep us in the top 10-12 in defense anyway, no matter what kind of shooters we bring in.
Its not like this is rocket science or hard to do. Washington & Miami became 2 of the best shooting teams in one off season. Washington even in cap hell & with no assets.

I'd say as of last night their seats better start to singe their butt-hairs.

OK? No of course not.

But all road games in the NBA are tough gets. Orlando lost this game because the Magic's bench was awful (notably Ross).
(( the Knicks bench scored 7 more than Orlando and NYKs won by 2 ))
(( to be fair, the Magic starters were extremely sloppy with the ball given the Knicks to many opportunities ))

But starting Birch at PF has got to end.

Jeff Weltman on Open Mike - 2/7/20

Quick Takeaways
-James Ennis is playoff tested. He played 21 MPG in the playoffs last year for the Sixers. Can catch and shoot.

-Team is running on fumes right now.

-Injuries are no excuse. We have enough talent to win now.

-Having 3 injured power forwards made the Magic hesitant to bring on another PF on a long-term contract.

-You can’t be half in or half out when it comes to tanking v. trying to make the playoffs. Weltman ultimately is anti tanking. Says there’s a lot of value in young guys playing games that matter in April and May.

-Says they’re trying to develop young guys and make the playoffs at the same time and making them value winning from day 1 of their careers v. becoming accustomed to losing early on.

-We talked to every team in the league, but Weltman again admitted that they were not going to trade future assets to get a PF for this year because Isaac and Aminu and Okeke are all coming back next year.

-Markelle Fultz is exceeding expectations. Organization absolutely thinks he’s gonna continue to get better and better. Cites the fact he’s 21. Just need to keep developing him physically and with his skill set. This is a big summer for him because it's going to be his first “normal” summer to just focus on basketball and not rehab.

-Magic have the third easiest schedule left and hoping to make a strong post ASB push like last year.

-Fans are gonna love Okeke. Quiet humble hard working. Good progress on his rehab. He wants to do more right now, but the team is bringing him along slowly. Doesn't sound like he's going to play until the Summer League.

-"A lot of our guys had career years last year." - specifically cites Vucevic and Ross. We felt the team earned the right to stay together based on how they finished last year. We don’t expect guys to have career years every year because that is unrealistic, but we do expect guys to play to their career norms and Ross and Vucevic specifically aren’t there.

-We’re just not clicking this year. Game ahead of last year's pace. Need to stop turning it over, get back in transition, foul less. Stop beating ourselves. Get back to who we are.

-Isaac's injuries are unrelated. The knee injury this year was just a fluke. Stepped on a guys foot on a long stride. Those things happen sometimes unfortunately. His body is still maturing. He was going to be an all defensive player this year.

Isaac makes us semi-watchable and much better defensively. The fact that they haven’t found those answers is 100% on them.

I am guessing Isaac would have scored more than the 2-points Birch just offered up. Heck: if Isaac had scored 5 points, Orlando wins the game.

I totally understand the Magic not wanting to bring on a PF on a long-term contract, but I really wish (not that Weltman would have answered it directly) Bianchi would have asked him if the Magic avoided making certain trades because they didn't want to damage their chances this year.

No, we clearly don’t. Offense is in the bottom 10 and we just lost to one of the worst teams in the league, which isn’t an excuse even without Isaac. We have a losing record. Merely saying something doesn’t make it true.

-You can’t be half in or half out when it comes to tanking v. trying to make the playoffs. Weltman ultimately is anti tanking. Says there’s a lot of value in young guys playing games that matter in April and May.

That’s a nice idea, but talent wins in the nba. Not a bunch of role players that have playoff experience.

-We talked to every team in the league, but Weltman again admitted that they were not going to trade future assets to get a PF for this year because Isaac and Aminu and Okeke are all coming back next year.

Bringing another pf wasn’t the issue. Cutting bait from handing out huge unmovable contracts and finding starting level options on offense would have sufficed.

These are the things that make me question this FO. They are either delusional, incompetent, or lying. Take your pick.

thinking Bianchi was going to ask him anything other than softball toss homerun questions is the first mistake. Orlando Media is about as soft as they come and it took Robbins going to the Athletic for us to even get some information/medium tough questions asked.

I get Weltman wanting the young guys to start their careers in winning environments, but you gotta surround them with talent that wins if that's what you're after. Vuc, AG and Fournier could all be flipped for other veterans who can keep us competitive.

I wonder if Vuc's regression gives Weltman any pause whatsover at throwing a long term contract at Fournier?

Yea we did. We made it cause we had some guys have career years. DJ, Vuc and Ross were great last year.. Now what do those players all have in common? I'll give you a hint AG and Fournier also have this in common.

LOL. relax

Thats why I said 4 more years. Because including this year, I don't expect the team to make the playoffs another 4 years with this current group. And that would make it 5 years, same amount of time the leash was given to Rob.

Id love to hear the answer to this question, and I brought it up multiple times in the trade deadline thread, but ultimately it doesn’t seem realistic to think this question would ever get asked. I think we know the answer though

Neither of them are good at their jobs but I like listening to Hammond a lot more than Weltman. Weltman just gives weasel politician answers.
