160 pounds guard. Good luck with that.

Even after all the crow you had to eat about Trae Young you still have this view  . Id rather take my chances on him putting on some weight then adding another player who needs to put on a jump shot. To be clear I dont think hes gonna be as good as Trae as he was a cant miss in my eyes. This kid is far from that. Its unlikly we are getting much more then a rotation guy at 15. If thats what we are getting then Id love that rotation guy be a shooter walking through the door.

He looks like he’s pretty skilled all around, can play on the ball or off the ball and has good vision. Might be the best shooter in the draft. He’s supposedly very intelligent too. Not a perfect prospect but we’re drafting at 15 in a weak draft. I would think he could easily put on 10-15 pounds working with NBA trainers

plus, i highly doubt he is really 160. if you look at his high school scouting profile, he is listed at 160 there too. You dont think a player's body changes after a year in a college weight and strength program? information listed is just whatever a player wants listed

Latest mock from Jonathan Wasserman.

1. Minnesota Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards (Georgia, SG, Freshman)
2. Golden State Warriors: LaMelo Ball (The Hawks, PG, 2001)
3. Charlotte Hornets: James Wiseman (Memphis, C, Freshman)
4. Chicago Bulls: Deni Avdija (Maccabi Tel Aviv, SF/PF, 2001)
5. Cleveland Cavaliers: Obi Toppin (Dayton, PF/C, Sophomore)
6. Atlanta Hawks: Tyrese Haliburton (Iowa State, PG/SG, Sophomore)
7. Detroit Pistons: Onyeka Okongwu (USC, C, Freshman)
8. New York Knicks: Devin Vassell (Florida State, SF, Sophomore)
9. Washington Wizards: Isaac Okoro (Auburn, SF, Freshman)
10. Phoenix Suns: Killian Hayes (Ratiopharm Ulm, PG, 2001)
11. San Antonio Spurs: Patrick Williams (Florida State, PF, Freshman)
12. Sacramento Kings: Saddiq Bey (Villanova, SF/PF, Sophomore)
13. New Orleans Pelicans: Jalen Smith (Maryland, PF/C, Sophomore)
14. Boston Celtics (via Memphis Grizzlies): Precious Achiuwa (Memphis, PF/C, Freshman)

15. Orlando Magic: Kira Lewis Jr. (Alabama, PG, Sophomore)

Even after Jonathan Isaac's torn ACL, the Magic could have a tough time passing on Lewis, who'd give them a new ball-handler with speed and shot-making ability. Defenses can have a difficult time containing him off the dribble, where he also made a notable jump with his skill execution as a scorer and passer.

He is nowhere near as gifted scorer nor passer compared to Trae. Also pls call me out once Trae leads his team pass second round. It will probably take decade or so.
Sill trash defender ( actually by most advanced stats the worst individual defender in basketball) , all his points come from usage, usage that leads to deep lottery. On East.

I might undervalued him, but he is still nowhere near as good as his stats might suggest. Just like Collins isn't as good as his stats look ( same team, same crap)

They also played 25 games without Collins and while he may not be a great player he's a damn good player for that roster. It's like us missing Vuc for 25 games, we'd look like absolute ****. They went 4-21 during those 25 games and honestly wasn't shocking.

The additions of Capela & Dedmon should help that rotation and I honestly think them landing at 6 is a blessing in disguise because they need a dude like Okoro or Okongwu more than they need an Edwards/Ball/Hayes type player.

Much rather be the Hawks than the Magic right now in terms of future aspects

Hawks are interesting case study to me, i just can't look at Collin and Trae and imagine sucess in playoffs. I also find very little value for serious games in players who waste as many possessions as Trae does by taking most idiotic jumpshots possible.
But ofc there is objective chance i'm clueless hater

Time will tell.

They also have too many young players imo. If they get some bigger ego guy , or somebody else starts beliving he is next big thing, as end of rookie scale contracts will come soon, it will be interesting to see will anybody try to hijack offense to get max contract.
Collins is already playing for his max next year. Capela is in books for 3 more years, Dedmon has 2.
They have cap space this year, year where nobody is FA.

I mean yea hes not as gifted as Trae.. Obviously. Young would go number 1 in this draft. A player who availible at 15 in this draft is gonna have alot of question marks.

You "might" have undervalued him? He an all star at year 2. You were flat out wrong. Hawks are still building there team. Once theres more talent his scoring will go down and assist will go up. Your metric wasnt leading to 2nd round. You thought he couldnt play at the NBA level. He can.. at an All star level.

I can see them using a little of the cap space on a vet guy like JJ or dare I say a Fournier type dude. They could go the Knicks route of 1 year deals with hope they improve enough by 21. That FO already has said they're not going to screw the '21 space just because they have space now. They could also go all in and trade 6 + Huerter/Reddish/Hunter combo and grab another player to complement Trae, Collins, Capela.

The biggest thing for them is they have plenty of options as to which way they want to go and it all adds up to '21 FA being a deciding point.

The Hawks are a much better team when Trae Young (on -5.1 netrtg, off -8.9) or John Collins (on -4.9, off -12.2) are on the floor. They were 15-26 when Collins played. They were 5-21 when he didn't. They were actually quite respectable when both Young and Collins were on the floor together (-1.1 netrtg). For comparison's sake, Orlando was -1.3 this year.

Ehh,allstar game really doesn't mean much, Devin Harris and Roy Hibbert used to be allstars. For crying out loud, James Donaldson was allstar on 8 points and 9 rebounds
Again, he puts up numbers, they are better with him on the floor because without him they didn't even have backup ballhandler for half of a year.

Thing about Trae is that he is already 4th highest usage rate player in NBA. And that's where his numbers from. He has bigger usage than Kawhi or Lebron James, Davis , Lillard, Curry...or pretty much anybody but Giannis, Harden and Luka. And he is nowhere near their level. And it's simply not justified other than excuse " not enough help". Will he be willing to take 8-9 shots a game less to make somebody else better and improve team? There is no evidence of that. He plays hero ball from start to finish, dating back to college.
And there is no evidence that his playing style is ever translating in team sucess. His college team was trash, 2 years in nba and his team is bottom of the barrel. Some of it is on purpose, but some of it is direct result of his style.

And there is some proof that his stats don't really make offense that much better, for 2 yeras straight, Atlanta offense is one of the worst in nba. And he is eating 34,9% of usage when he plays.

I don't think he is trash, i just don't think his numbers will ever translate into Ws. Much like Russell Westbrook and his triple double seasons...

Didn't you say a week ago Pepe that you'd take a flyer on Tyrell Terry at 15 and be done with it?

Personally , I think he's very behind in physical development (has since grown to 6'3" apparently and still growing), I don't think his current physical form is very indicative of how he can end up. He's not as good as his stats, because a lot of his stats paint him as one of college basketball's most potent offensive weapons and with defensive win shares much better than the eye test can confirm. He's probably not that, but it does point to a player who, with improved physique and work on his handle, can be at minimum a rotation combo guard in the pros, with a ceiling considerably higher.

He's in the mix for me at 15.

Drafting Trae Young in 2018 would have instantly changed the entire complexion of our team for the next decade. He has short comings as a defender, but 30/9/4 at age 21 is really hard to argue against. Instantly would be our best offensive player since Tracy McGrady.

I really don't like to dismiss players simply based on their physical attributes. It's definitely worth considering, but I first like to see if the player can play. Tyrell Terry is a high IQ player who can capital "S" shoot. Those are highly coveted skills in 2020. It's hard to get those skills AND be an amazing defender with length in the same player. For where we're picking in the draft, if we can find a player that can simply contribute with some upside, that'd be a win. I think you could do a lot worse than Terry in this draft. Terry will find a role in the NBA.

I really REALLY want to like terry, but i just dont see it

I love his shot, but thats literally it. i dont see the playmaking, inside game or defense from him.
I want to say this is the highest regard and dont want it to sound like an insult, but i really just see DJ augustin with him.

one thing about terry though he doesn't have the ballhandling that trae had, even in college trae had defenders on skates and that contributed to his shot making.....terry doesn't have the requisite "shake" to his game yet, from what i've seen he's a JJ redick type which is fine.....the stats say he's efficient though iirc.....it's going to be a tough decision since there was no portsmouth invitiational, no combine....will be no in-person workouts....so all they really have to go off of is just the game film and any virtual interviews that will take place or have already taken place....just wish this whole draft was over with man the speculation is getting to me

I don't see him being anything like Trae either.

Return to Orlando Magic
