Summer 2020 cap room

Post#1 » by cedric76 » Sat Feb 8, 2020 7:36 pm

Only 4 teams will have significant cap rooms

Atlanta: 49.21M
Charlotte: 22.81M
Detroit: 34.86M
Miami: 26.50M
New York: 38.76M

Can you see any of them going after Evan?

If Evan leave us it kl be for a contender so the only option is miami and we all know that they won't go after Evan as they want to keep cap space to go after Giannis

The dark horse is atlanta, trae + evan could be their version of the curry + klay

This makes me think that Evan won't opt out and will wait for summer 2021

1. Evan returning next year is a nightmare, not something to hope for.
2. Evan doesn't care if he plays for a winner or not. Just wants to get paid and playing time. I'm nervous no one but us will be interested.

Trae ain't Curry himself, so it's homless version of that anyway

That being said, Trae, Evan, Cam Reddish/Hunter - Collins- Capela + 2020 lottery pick can be playoff team

Problem with Evan is, on one side he is a perfect player for the modern NBA, but because of the situation he found here & the role he got by default, he is gonna be paid much more than he is worth & wants a role he doesnt deserve.
He gonna want 18-20 Mio a year at least because of the role he got here. Most teams doesnt want him for that money & for this role. They want him to be a shooter & attack the occasional closeout & be the 3rd or 4th playmaker in some situations.
This means if the FO wants him back they gonna get him back. Big chance we are the only team or one of 2-3 teams to give him the money he wants (either 2020 or 2021) but we are the only team who gonna offer him that big role on a team.

Fair, but Trae is still a hell of a lot closer to Curry than Evan is to Klay. As for the Hawks, I agree that they have a really good shot to make the playoffs next year but they won't need Evan Fournier to do it.

Evan on Atlanta would make an historic team, a historically bad defensive team. I'm not kidding I really think they could break some records that would live forever.

They won one game without Young and last night almost beat Cetlics, mostly becuse Trae is black hole on defense. LIterally the worst NBA defender this year. They will have to add SG and SF that are really good defenders, so i guess Huerter won't cut it long term.

If i had to bet right now, i would still pick them to miss playoffs next year. Simply too young.

1.Evan optinh in is the best option as his contract would expire in 2021 when top fa r available. (trade AG for expiring and assets and we could be uo to 35M under the cap)

2.Evan is a winner, guy hates losing. He loves orlando and would only leave us for a contender.

I hope you're wrong we need to get rid of AG and one of the Vuc/Evan duo for this team to ever go anywhere.

I would be shocked if any of these teams give Evan a new contract. Hawks already have Cam and Huerter no need for Evan. I think there is a really good chance he opts in next season.

Truth. Evan would be a great role player on the Lakers or bucks though.

I really hope he optin
Then we can trade AG + Ross for assets and expiring contract (which shouldn't be hard if we try to)

Get into summer 2021 with over 50m in cap space and a core of player

Fultz
Chuma
JI
Mo
Vuc
2020 pick (hopefully a sg with high potential)
2021 pick
Draft Carter
Sign monk
Trade Cole for a forward
Let chuma+fultz go
Offer goga a 1+1 deal

Yea but thats the problem. For a contender & higher PO teams he is a role player. They dont pay him what he wants. Up & Coming & Rebuilding teams doesnt take on that contract because he is kinda old for a rebuilding team & they have to pay all there rookies soon.
Alot of this applies to Vuc (plus the much less valued position) too. Thats the reason he is not ''easy'' to trade & not on a ''good'' contract. You can be sure, Evan wants nothing more than resigning here. We are the only team where he gets the money he wants & the role he wants. Evan's gonna resign & is at the moment he does a bad contract.

Pragmatically this is fantastic for Orlando. Specifically it frees up a huge amount of money for the 2021 off-season, which is always when this team plans to make the big FA splash.

No path to 2021 cap room in sight. You guys just keep repeating this in hopes of a plan... there is no plan. You'd have to see a Hinkie 76ers style clear out of contracts to get to space.

Also I don't see how Evan opting in helps 2021 space more than Evan opting out.

I keep hearing about the Heat's 2021 free agency plans... you look at their team salary and it's literally only Jimmy Butler's salary and a couple tiny 2nd round pick salaries if the pick up the options. That is what a plan looks like. I hate everything about the Heat but what they're doing makes sense. We aren't a FA destination so I can understand the argument we shouldn't do that, but people thinking we are going all-in for the offseason of 20__ are giving way too much credit to this FO.
