poll: Over / under on Orlando's final win total

Post#1 » by drsd » Sun Mar 8, 2020 9:39 am

Various statistical models (and for me - common sense) has Orlando finishing with a 38-44 record.

Over = 39 or more wins
Under = 37 or less wins

Let me expand this for the poll:
Orlando has the over and the 7-seed
Orlando has the over and the 8-seed
Orlando has the over and fails to make the playoffs
Orlando has 38-wins exactly and the 7-seed
Orlando has 38-wins exactly and the 8-seed
Orlando has has 38-wins exactly and fails to make the playoffs
Orlando has the under and the 7-seed
Orlando has the under and the 8-seed
Orlando has the under and fails to make the playoffs

I think this accounts for all possibilities.

I think the Magic will "over-achieve" with 39 or 40 wins and will get the 7-seed.

I hope over but I don’t trust this team. So I’m taking the under.

Lets take a look:

Spoiler:
@Memphis
Chicago
Charlotte
@Detroit
Cleveland
Sacramento
@Brooklyn
Indiana
Brooklyn
New Orleans
Charlotte
@Boston
@Philadelphia
@New York
Boston
@Indiana
@Chicago
Toronto

Games in green are the ones we should win, games in blue are 50/50, and games in red are losses. The over is not something I would bet on, but with how they have been playing as of late it's not out of the question. They're going to have to show that they can beat some good teams if they are going to do it tho because knowing this team they will drop 1-2 games against a Chicago or New York.

I can't see this team winning more than 35-36. I also can't see us finishing lower than 7th either. The Nets would have to go nuts versus good teams to pass us. Our schedule is easier, and they're missing Kyrie. Even though I think he's a negative.

With all that said though, I voted 7th seed but also under 38 wins. 38 wins would probably be a major accomplishment considering all the injuries plus the trash start to the year by everyone not named Evan, Fultz, and Isaac.

They're at 29 wins with 18 to go.

I'll say they finish 9-9 to get to 38 wins.

Here is what the Nets has:
@Los Angeles
@Golden State
@LA
@Sacramento
Washington
Boston
Orlando
LA
@Orlando
Cleveland
Portland
Detroit
@Indiana
Dallas
@Oklahoma City
@Milwaukee
@Chicago
@Cleveland
Milwaukee

This has Orlando at about 10-8 and Brooklyn at about 5-14. Worse case with Orlando at 8-10 and Nets at 7-12, the Magic wins the tie-breaker with one Magic win over the Nets (I think).
