Well we're stuck with a potential canceled season....So what's next???!!

DAY DREAM TIME!!!!

OK, let's play GM! What would you like our team to look like next year?

But hold up.... In order to avoid toooooo much day dream... let's say you get to make 2 trades and 2 draft picks. In addition, it's up to you if you want Fournier back or not. If he does come back, then you get no FA signings except for the MLE (3yr/$18M). If he doesn't come back then you can spend $10M in FA and no MLE, but rather the Room Exception (2yr/$9M).

Ready, set go!!!!

I’ll play, but forgive me if it’s more of a GM for dummies type of way. I’m not skilled in matters of the salary cap like a lot of guys. I’ll just do a combination of what I’d like to see and realistic options I see via the draft.

1. The Magic will keep Evan Fournier until the deadline but will trade him and our frp to acquire Gordon Hayward.
2. The Magic trade Aaron Gordon and Aminu for CJ McCollum and a cheap forward.

3. Draft Killian Hayes

Roster:
C: Vucevic,Bamba,Khem
PF: JI,Okeke, Vonleh?
sF: Gordon Hayward,T-Ross
SG: CJ McCollum, Hayes
PG: Fultz,DJ,MCW

Good stuff. Long have fans discussed a McCollum for AG swap, so that's not a far fetched idea. I can also see BOS wanting to trade Hayward.... but I'm not sure they would be interested in Evan. Nor could I really see WeHam wanting him either. I do like him... he fits a need, but is it the right puzzle piece? Overall I like the creativity and Hayes is a guy that could become something in the future, so I like the pick up without needing to force feed him minutes right away. If this really was our starting roster next season, I think it would put a good amount of excitement back. A McCollum trade alone might be enough to do that.

ok ill give this a try

1 - Bye bye evan
2 - Only one trade.....i HATE to do this, but i dont see the team keeping him and JI long term and think JI is the GM choice, so....AG+Filler for Michael Porter Jr and Will Barton. MPj seems to be on the outs with management\coaching over there in Denver, and with Millsap getting older, what better way to replace him than with a younger athletic PF who does alot of the same things. AG would fit in perfectly with what the nuggets are building and would do so at a cheap price for 2 years and we get a SF who has the potential to be our go-scorer and fits the wingspan requirement we seem to have.
3 - Use 1st rounder on aaron nesmith, 2nd rounder on Malachi Flynn (SDSU PG)
4 - Use 10m Cap space from evan leaving on Furkan Korkmaz (76ers SG)
5 - Use exception on a backup PF cause i dont think Okeke will be ready for big minutes right away

C - Vuc\Bamba\Birch
PF - JI\Okeke \aminu
SF - MPj\Ross\Barton\
SG - Korkmaz\Nesmith\Iwundu
PG - Fultz\MCW\Flynn

Thanks Skin, honesty my biggest thing I want to see is a competent 2 and 3 combination on this team and tried to think of a good 3 who might match with McCollum. Ultimately it may not be much of a WeHam type roster like you pointed out and Boston may not buy in on Fournier long term but in terms of trying to build a Magic squad that would be a winner I think they’d work. Although I do believe we’d take a hit on the defensive end, we’d make it up by having more talent and potential off the bench. A three headed monster of CJ, Gordon, and Vuc makes the Magic able to score anywhere on the floor with Fultz and JI’s versatility flanking them.

Here's a quicky.

1 - Fournier Opts Out - Yeah, this happens in my world. 8-)

2 - Draft SF Jaden McDaniels, Washington 6'9 (7'7 Wingspan) - WeHam long boi still learning to put it all together, but still a baller. Way more fluid on the wing than Isaac. Has a dawg attitude that I love. https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-husky-basketball/the-curious-case-of-jaden-mcdaniels-trying-to-make-sense-of-the-uw-freshman-stars-baffling-season/

3 - Trade Aaron Gordon for Kelly Oubre - Another dawg. Where there's smoke... lot of flickering flames around PHX/ORL surrounding Gordon and Oubre. I believe this is gonna happen. Salaries didn't match up during the season, but with Gordon's declining contract, I think that will make it easier for both sides to come together in the summer.

4 - Trade Nikola Vucevic for Lamarcus Aldridge - Spurs tried to trade Derozan and LA at the deadline, but nothing was made of it. Vuc is a classic Popovich prototype. Aldridge is 35 years old and is a FA in 2021. I would bring him off the bench, but still give him minutes between PF/C that he'll be get his avg 30-32 mpg. Needs to help mentor Isaac and Bamba. I think this can happen if creative minds come together.

5 - Sign Nic Batum - SG/SF with a 7.25' wingspan who at 31 should accept a role off the bench, but provide much needed experience and mentoring.

Fultz / Oubre / McDaniels / Isaac / Bamba
MCW / Ross / Okeke / Aldridge / Birch
Batum / Aminu / Birch

Continued focus on development. Improved firepower from the bench with LA and Batum. More DAWG mentality in starting lineup.

With that roster it certainly forces the young guys to step up offensively with Vuc, Gordon and Fournier gone. I think it may turn Fultz into the alpha people hope he can be.

Don’t trade anyone. Keep Fournier if he doesn’t opt out. Draft bpa, but I’d like to see a power forward so that we can put AG and JI on the wings. In my mind, getting rid of players won’t make the team better. The goal should be to continue to add talent. Also try to ensure the team is healthy and has good stamina throughout the season.

Maybe this is the year we actually mix things up. Probably not. I think a good semi-realistic plan forward would be this.

1. Let Fournier walk. We can’t afford to continue to have one of the most expensive rosters with a first round exit ceiling.

2. Test the market for AG. If we can get good return to pair with Isaac, we should try. If a deal isn’t good enough, or doesn’t exist, we keep him. I like Oubre, but WeHam might not.

3. Draft a SG/SF that can create offense. Don’t draft a big man. Second round draft a PG; maybe Butler, Pritchard, or Hagans.

Lineup becomes-
Fultz/ MCW / 2020 2nd
Ross / 2020 1st / Iwundu
AG or trade/ Okeke /Ennis
Isaac/ Aminu / Okeke
Vuc/ Bamba / Birch

Little too early? Given that nba will suffer enormous amount of losses in revenue from tv rights, if NBA playoffs never happen, it's not objective to expect salary cap to be same for next season.

Matter of fact amount of money NBA and other sports (and it's players and owners ) will lose could lead toward cutting salaries of players and teams in half.

NBA teams live from commercials, tv rights and direct promotion of products during a games. When games are off, money simply does not flow.

So whole "projected lineup" , "he will opt out, he will not" is silly talk in this moment.

We are in mid March. Coronavirus peak ( much like it was Spanish flue or any other virus) will probably have second wave. So when will nba finish this seasaon ? Mid summer ? That's crazy talk , and even if they do, nobody really watches TV during summer, so they will lose money regardless.

Dude! Read the point of the thread. It’s just to see what you’d do with the team if you could. It’s supposed to just be for fun conjecture. If you wanna discuss profit deficiencies due to coronavirus, there’s a thread for that.

At first I thought this was sarcastic but now I’m not sure.

Keep everyone and add power forwards?

Weltman?

Far fetched enough that it would take a helluva lot more than that to pry McCollum from Blazers.

I thought I was a wild man!

Lol nah, I appreciate the suggestion. Which PFs in the draft do you like?

I try to trade Vuc for Gobert if he's not getting along with Mitchel.

Fultz / Fournier / Gordon / Isaac / Gobert = all time great defensive team? with Chuma, Bamba, MCW off the bench who are all very strong defenders too.

Maybe try to trade Gordon for a more dynamic wing if possible

I thought about this when I saw the Gobert thread in the trades and transactions forum.

With that roster I would keep Gordon. Just make sure he's PF on offense and SF in defense. Adding some firepower of the bench would be great.

The cap was already to decline with the Houston comments about the Chinese state. Now a total closure will cause a cliff's edge decline in the cap.

We could potential see a cap next year 20% below this year's cap. Under that scenario, all players that can opt in to a contract will. And no team will have cap space for anything other than LLE contracts.

Rookie deals will become very valuable in this new NBA cap-space landscape.

If there's a cap contraction and this whole corona situation leads to players erring on the side of caution and taking guaranteed big money vs testing the new market, I could see Fournier and a bunch of others opting in.

I was watching a virologist Dr Joseph Fair earlier and he said, that if the coronavirus turns into Covid-19 that it will do permanent lung damage. So hopefully Gobert doesn't get the disease part of the virus
