IF the season ended now, how much would you re-sign both, given their injury history, and current play..
Fultz =
Isaac =

I would give Isaac the max if he demanded it.
I'd give Fultz about 10-12 mil a year for 4 years.

OP are you expecting the season not to resume until August 2021?

They'll be eligible for extensions after this season.
Not sure if teams will be handing out extensions until they figure out what the ramifications of the virus will be.

I’d honestly not max either guy until they prove to be able to play a full season. In that regard, ironically Fultz has been pretty durable for the Magic. I‘d certainly max out Markelle first if he improves more next season. Issac I need to see play a full season first. Talent wise Issac certainly is a guy you’d want to lock up comfortable for a long time.

Max should be silly to think about for either at this point if we're being honest with ourselves. This year the max coming off a rookie deal started at 27.2 million. Fultz nor Isaac should be earning anywhere near that unless they improve a lot and/or get much healthier.

Impossible to talk about money without knowing how much salary cap wil sink.
They might end up making same money they made in rookie contracts if salary shrinks to $70-80M, while in same time making same percentage of salary they would normally make if cap didn't sink.

Finally a basketball related topic
We could talk in percentages.. I’d think based on what we’ve seen so far we’d overpay a bit on potential. I’d say JI deserves 20% of the cap with Fultz at 15%. Both have shown to be injury prone, but both have also shown so much potential. I don’t think we can afford to lose the potential of either of them.

Young starters command North of 12M, per. So any number well above that: each.

Other than the declining format, I think an AG size deal makes sense for both.
$20M per year with some team options on the tail (due to injury concerns) would work. This is well short of a max but highlights their potential and the investment we are making in them as core pieces of this franchise.

Markelle makes over $12M next year and has a QO of $16M in 2021.
We made an investment in him. He has played well, remained healthy and had some flashes of greatness.
I’m not saying we max him out, but erase $12M from your mind as a benchmark.

Working with the current cap in mind, I'd be looking to lock either down for a 4 year $70-80M contract. If we get priced up, then match.
But we need a lot more figured out before then. It will be dangerous to have $100M tied up in Vuc, Gordon, Isaac, Ross, Fultz for 4 years with the results we've seen so far. That doesn't even include Fournier likely opting back into his deal.

A young, starting quality PG should command in the 22M-plus range, no matter what.
And a young, starting quality stretch forward should command in the 18M-plus range, no matter what.
Those are the maths of the old NBA. Before the Chinese-advert effects on the CAP and now the internal lack of advert effects on the cap.
So: for me the real question is: what will Orlando offer Fultz and Isaac? Both will get offers, but if they are 15M a year for 5 years each - flat; such numbers would not surprise me.

Why is that so dangerous?
- All reports claim there is a lot of interest around the league in AG. A deal for him is there to be made.
- Even if Evan opts in it is just one year.
- We still have Fultz, Isaac, Chuma, Bamba and a 2020 pick to see growth and development rather than the complacency you fear.

I definitely think there’s long term deals for Fultz and Issac with us in the future. It’s arguable at this point that those guys will be the faces of the franchise assuming they improve as expected. I think Fournier and Gordon and possibly T-Ross are destined to be moved or let go in the off-season, whenever that’s official. I still like Gordon and wouldn’t mind keeping him a while but for the sake of changing the long term outlook of the team, it may be best to move him. Fournier needs to go, as good as he is offensively, his decision making stills are terrible, especially in crunch time. I’d be willing to bet he leads the NBA in turnovers during the last 5 minutes of 4th quarters. Fultz has been very sure handed during that same time period. That alone earns him an extension in my book. If we get rid of Fournier’s salary, offering extensions are a lot more feasible.

It's dangerous committing that much money to a group of players whom have yet to show that any one of them are a capable enough player to elevate the rest to a notable standard.
I don't fear complacency as much as I fear handcuffing ourselves with deals for players we could struggle to move for a decent return whilst having no clear franchise player on the team.

- AG is very moveable. We learned that at the deadline. Had Isaac not been injured AG probably would already be gone. Expect him to be gone this summer.
- Evan will be gone soon enough one way or another.
As for Fult and Isaac you have to accept that we are the Orlando Magic and not the LA Lakers. Don’t hand them max contracts but don’t lose young talent when it comes through the door simply because you want to nickel and dime every contract.
==> Isaac isn’t a franchise talent but he is a defensive anchor and an improving offensive talent. Invest early and be great full.
==> Fultz is harder to gauge as the sample size is smaller and issuers are scarier. But the overall potential is higher than anyone we have. It’s time to take a risk. What’s the worst that happens? He gets injured and we bottom out and net 3 top picks?

I don't have a problem with extending Fultz or Isaac. What issues do you have with the offers I put out there? Make them an offer, and if someone offers more, we match - that's our prerogative. Do you want us to outbid ourselves?
