This is how people "get bigger" yet don't add much muscles at all.
Muscle building is years long process to fill up body, and gets super minor after just about year or two of lifting.
I just don't see this as a problem. A lot of athletes struggle to add muscle because they have a caloric deficiency. You have to have a caloric surplus to build muscle, so this is just a part of the process. He certainly doesn't look fat at this point. My only concern with this regards adding so much weight in such a short period of time after coming off of a stress fracture in his leg.
