Dennis Smith??

The newsfeed mentions the Magic are interested in trading for Dennis Smith. Mentions pick 15. Am I the only one wondering wtf they’re thinking? Wasn’t Smith a reserve for the Knicks? I’m pretty sure his star potential has passed. Could be a good young backup for Fultz I suppose. Could a move like this signal a roster overhaul?

I'm cool with bringing him in but not for the 15th pick

It's the NYPost... they've been pushing smith to magic every off season and trade deadline for a couple years now. In the article it just sounds like they're using their past rumor to "link" the magic as a potential trade partner in the context of a larger deal including the knicks' 8th pick (article is about NY trading down in the draft).

He'd be a restricted FA, Kind of like selling the 15th pick if they don't believe in anyone who'd be there.
With both DJ and MCW FA, we will need a backup PG or 2.
I'd prefer one that could shoot, and sacrifice something else.
I'd rather trade for someone like Derrick White (SAS), they have Murray at PG.
With picks 11 & 15, SAS could move up or draft and stash one.

Many are thinking about what and the #15 equals Smith and the #8. Whatever the "what" is asset wise really is the determinant here.

If Birch/Aminu, then yes. If Gordon/Ross, then no.

Knicks board is suggesting 15 for DSJ. I'm out at that price point.

No one is doing that.

There is a list of PG prospects (who will be on rookie deals for years to come) available for our choosing at #15 if that is what we want with the pick.

#15 + something for DSjr + #8

That is the only deal worth discussing if (something) is not AG or anyone significant.

Their board was discussing DSJ for 15 or Isaac + 2021 1st for DSJ, 8, Knox.

DSJr for Magic's pick 15th overall? Done and done!

How about our 8th pick + DSjr + Knox + two 2nd rounders for Isaac? Maybe throw in $3m and take on Aminu as well.

An Isaac and Mitchel front court is intriguing even though Isaac is out for a while...

Robinson
Isaac
RJ
Frank
FVV

Lockdown.
I guess you don't know Issac has a torn ACL and will miss all of next season?

I would want Orl pick next year too (just let Isaac sit the year) and tank...but I want 3 picks in 2021 because I'm risking it all for Cade if I'm the Knicks.

Tell them we want RJ Barrett and unprotected FRPs every other year until 2030.

His value is for a second round pick at this point. I'd gladly take him for that. 15th pick is a reach for the Knicks.

Depends on the price. Surprised we didnt go for ntilikina.

Although all these rumors probably means its not true. Our front office pretty much doesnt leak anything credible

I agree, however, he makes $5,8M a year (next year) so Magic can't just add him to a salary books as they have no cap space. So trade requires adding player.

#15 is way to much, no way our bad FO trades our FRP for him, they gave less for a #1 prospect, they aren't THAT dumb.

i wanted him on draft day, and wanted us to trade for him at the deadline along with fultz

But hes had enough time, in multiple systems to say hes a bust and not worth trading for

hes a guy id sign for league min\10 day contrac, if he was a FA, but trading a 1st round pick for him? no thanks

So is 2021 draft a big draft? NYK already thinking of tanking? What about Magic?

I would rather use the 15th pick on Tyrese Maxey and pair him with Fultz.

Here’s the Athletic 8.0 Mock Draft Profile write up on him

20. Miami Heat
Tyrese Maxey | 6-3 guard | 19 years old, freshman | Kentucky

The Heat have obviously had incredible success in recent years selecting Kentucky players. Tyler Herro stands out from last year. The team did like PJ Washington as well, who turned out to be a strong rookie in Charlotte and went the pick before Herro. Bam Adebayo has morphed into one of the NBA’s best big men. And Pat Riley’s overall affinity for Kentucky players is well established.

If you buy into Maxey being a secondary ballhandler who can shoot, this pick makes sense. Kendrick Nunn has not been reliable in the playoffs, and Goran Dragic is a free agent this year. Maxey is a tough kid with a terrific, powerful frame that looks like that of a free safety. He’s 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-6 wingspan. That often fits in Miami. He also has a real personality to him and is thought to be a great kid and a tremendous worker. More than the non-basketball stuff, though, Maxey is a real threat as an on-ball scoring guard with great craft. He finishes well at the basket, has a terrific floater game and does a great job getting downhill to get into the paint. He’s also a strong on-ball defender.

Ultimately, the big question here is the jumper and what level it gets to. Everyone around the industry is agreed that he is a better shooter than his 29 percent mark from 3 showed last year. But is he a 35 percent shooter? Does he have a chance to get up to 39 percent in the right circumstance? That number is going to tell the tale of how far Maxey goes in his career as a useful player. There probably isn’t a better place for him to land than Miami if that’s the question mark, though. The Heat have developed confident players to work within their jump shot extremely well in recent years.

So is that the bar of what we wanna get out of 15th pick? Like a sure thing, so we can trade for? A guy that is not going to be resigned after rookie contract?

Unreal.

I hope this is not true but with the inactivity and dumb decisions of Weham, I am not surprised.
