Ringer: League sources say the Magic are attempting to move up into the lottery

https://nbadraft.theringer.com/#mockLeague sources say the Magic are attempting to move up into the lottery; if they stay put, though, Maxey could potentially provide lottery value and immediately inject life as an energetic presence and hard-nosed defender. Though Markelle Fultz’s resurgence makes for a nice story, he’s still yet to prove he can reliably shoot the ball. Maxey is further along as a scorer off the dribble, which could push Fultz into his ideal role as a supercharged Shaun Livingston.
This is the least I've followed a draft in 7 years, so I won't pretend to know exactly who they could target, but if they are going to truly move up, I hope it's aggressively to draft one of Edwards/Hayes. I'm not huge on either or this draft in general, but if they are going to finally call their shot on somebody I'm hoping that it's a guard.

Very happy to hear this. We have all read speculation that Orlando should be a natural fit for other teams as a trade partner. This is the first time I have read a rumor suggesting internal willingness to move up and get “their guy” in this draft.

Trading AG to get into range for Haliburton or Hayes would be a good move IMO.
I would then double down and take a swing at another G at 15. Either Terry, Maxey, or Lewis. Or take a wing like Josh Green.
Then do ...something.. with Fournier.
Spend this upcoming lost season “developing and evaluating” (not tanking) our young talent and prepare for the loaded 2021 draft. Try and get Bamba some more minutes to see if there’s anything salvageable.

This is good news. I hope it is Edwards for sure

Edwards screams Dion Waiters to me. I wouldn't trade up for him.
I could see Orlando moving up for Deni/Hayes/Vassell
There's a lot of different scenario's that we can pull off WHILE keeping Gordon which I dont think we're moving *this summer (winter).
I really like the idea of pairing Maxey with Fultz though and think they will play well off each other.

If we trade up I hope it's for Hayes or Hali. Don't want anything to do with Vassell, scares the crap out of and screams nothing more than an Iwundu/Frazier dude.

Boston is trying to move up too.
I really hope we have a chance on Edwards. Dude is going to be a beast playing along side Fultz and that is our future.
Just imagine a roster with Fultz, Isaac, Bamba and Edwards.
But I also think this is a kind of move our FO won't do because it is not their style of doing things.
Maybe this is just a fan hype and doesn't come with logic and reasoning. I hope we make a move on draft night btw

The 2020 NBA draft is as unpredictable as can be. Rumors are all over the place, and teams are trying to trade up, down, or completely out. League sources say both the Celtics and Magic are trying to move up into the mid-lottery using their own first-round picks, and the Wizards are angling to move up from no. 9. – via nbadraft.theringer.com
To me, “mid-lottery” suggests Edwards & Ball are NOT the target.
Killian Hayes might be more realistic in the #4-8 range. ... perhaps Halliburton or even Vassell depending where in the mid-lottery the pick is.
Meanwhile, rumors are flying that Onyeka Okongwu is the target of Boston.

If I know this front office, the target is Patrick Williams. I just don't see anything up there that is worth giving up assets to move up for. I'd guess it's Haliburton or Vassell. They should be able to give you solid minutes from the start. The playmakers at the top of this draft are severely flawed. There will be a steep learning curve for Ball or Hayes. Ball can't shoot, create his own shots, or defend anything at all. Hayes looks like a wing that someone is trying hard to turn into an engine PG, but he just doesn't have it in him. I think legit guards will eat him alive.

I am guessing if we move up into mid lottery, it could be Devin Vassell. A guy with length, which our FO likes. A guy who can defend, which our FO likes. And a guy who can shoot 3s, which can help us stretch the floor.
I know the argument towards him is he is simply a 3D guy with limited offense.
But hasn't our FO surprised you last several years?
We don't need a PG, we have Fultz. And we can easily resign MCW to be Fultz's backup.
I hope Evan opts in and we can move him for more assets later. We need a solid 2 and solid 3

James Harden is reportedly targeted by 76ers. I doubt if Houston is parting ways with him. But 76ers are rumored to trade Ben Simmons or Embiid. I know we have zero shots there but Bradley Beal could be a hot target this offseason, the league's second leading scorer with zero chance competing at Wizards.
I really hope our FO is Darl Morey like, active in the trade market. Trading up in the draft is a first step but we need to get better to avoid mediocrity

Completely fine with this. The only thing I wouldn't give up would be any future 1st rounders.

Yeah, to me it sounds like it points to the rumoured Hawks and Knicks picks being available.
If we're talking with the Hawks, who want veteran presence, then we've got Vuc, Gordon and Ross to offer. Gordon is a poor fit, and would require a 3rd team.
Ross + #15? This feels plausible to me. Ross is great value, and (half the time) great at what the Hawks like - 3s.
Vuc for Capela + #6? This would be a big sacrifice for WeHam to trade him within the division to another team fighting for play relevance. But we get a starting C back on a good value deal, and the #6 pick. Would completely change the identity of the team.
If it's the Knicks, then anything is on the table. Seems like Scott Perry still has a thing for the guys he acquired in Orlando so he'd probably still like Gordon.
Gordon + #15 for Randle + #8? Providing Hayes/Haliburton are still there. I'd do this. Always been a fan of Randle, even if his play can be quite disgusting at times. Maybe Clifford can straighten him out? Not sure the value on Gordon over Randle is even there, let alone offsets a 7 place jump, but maybe?
Vuc + #15 for Randle + Robinson + DSJr + #8 More trades would need to be made to deal with the extra front court glut, but...
Robinson/Bamba
Randle/Aminu/(Isaac)
Gordon/Okeke
(Hayes/Haliburton)/Ross
Fultz/DSJr
There's a lot of extra depth to consolidate in that front court, which should fetch a nice return. Would need to trade one each of Robinson/Bamba and Randle/Gordon to chase another wing.

Houston has repeatedly said all calls involving James Harden are non-starters.
Unless Harden demands to be traded, Houston will not move him ... for anything.

Can we turn a deal to move up into a double play?
Consolidate vets this year into a promising rookie who can be a very valuable starter (but likely not a star). I think Hayes can be that.
But surely a lineup like Ben listed will lose a lot next year while it develops. Is that so bad?
2021 is stacked. Landing anywhere in the top 5 could be gold!
... and just in time for Isaac’s return!

I don't know. Gordon and Randle go at it whenever they match up. It always seems to me that Gordon gets the better of him. Randle isn't a lightweight, but he struggles with Gordon's athleticism and physicality. I don't know if Gordon is better or not, but I hate watching Randle and I'd hate to get him back in return.

I feel like Hayes or Haliburton would be the targets. Hayes has been a name attached to us for a while due to his hometown connections, plus he's coming in much more professionally groomed with 3 years of pro-ball under his belt already. His deficiencies at PG are fine if he's playing alongside Fultz. Then he's free to be a pure shot creator with the capacity to pass if a better look is generated - a role which he could thrive in. Haliburton is someone I think WeHam could value as a rookie who won't hold us back. Not a super high ceiling, but he could be the vocal leader and glue guy who does everything well, like Kris Middleton.
Patrick Williams... looks raw AF. Gotta love his LeBron-ish body and that he can handle well enough, but he looks more likely to become Jonathon Simmons than LeBron. I don't think this FO puts themselves deeper in the hole by doubling up on prospects again.
With the 7-8 play in, WeHam are absolutely shooting for that. I expect any moves to be more re-tooling than rebuilding. Swapping Gordon/Fournier/Ross for one of those young guards who will hopefully hit the ground running and keep us contending for the playoffs.

I also heard Dallas wanting to move into the lottery. I've heard some say this is a weak draft but a lot of teams are trying to move up.
I think we have the best tradable assets.
