20-21 season start in December
Looks like the players just approved it.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30264861/nbpa-reps-approve-dec-22-start-date-72-game-regular-season
That is 46 days from now (Nov 6).
No "summer league" I guess?
Practices should be starting soon?

I don't know about you but much like everything ended, i feel no hype whatsoever for start of new season in literally month and half.

Free agency likely to start before the draft too, could see the trade moratorium lifted next week too.
I'm excited for next season starting when it does, especially because I think there's going to be a crazy amount of trades this offseason. It'll be good to have the Christmas showpiece schedule too.

Will FA be before the draft as well? Have they said/rumoured when players will have to opt in?

I think the opt in/out dates are one of the things that will get agreed this coming week, but presumably before the start of the FA window.
At a punt I’d say maybe Friday with FA to start following Monday, then draft on the Wednesday.

On a recent podcast it was said that options are contract specific. For example either day prior to draft or eve of free agency. These will remain but the language will be changed to reflect the new calendar.

Found some points on the approval call last week:
Here’s what you need to know from Thursday’s NBPA call approving the Christmas Week start, which The Athletic has learned via multiple sources:
— Several players pushed for the start of free agency soon after the Nov. 18 NBA Draft. Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 were mentioned as possibilities.
— The NBA and union are discussing an escrow of player salaries in the 10-to-20 percent range — likely landing around 17-to-18 percent — over the next two years before a hopeful return to the normal 10 percent withholding in 2022-23.
—NBPA executive director Michele Roberts and NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke on Thursday morning, where the aspect of the television networks “suddenly” pursuing Christmas week came up.
— Health and safety protocols are still being finalized with the league. The NBA and NBPA will conduct daily coronavirus testing. The league and its players union are continuing to monitor the NFL, which is playing in markets.
— There will be a minimum of two percent annual growth in the salary cap and luxury tax for the remainder of the collective bargaining agreement. The expected cap for this offseason is $109 million.
— The NBPA informed players that trade restrictions are expected to be lifted by Nov. 16 — ahead of the Nov. 18 draft.
— The Pistons and Clippers were the lone teams without team reps in the meeting.

So it's happening but no bubble? Teams will fly and play in arenas? Obviously unprecedented situation here it's going to start quickly. Sort of nice, free agency starts next Friday.

Did they ever give a definitive date players can opt-in/out of their current contract?
