This will almost assuredly be granted by the league.

I believe the Magic actually have more than $3,681,283 of their MLE left so this isn't financially based. It appears to be more about getting a 16th roster spot with Isaac out for the season.

Seems strange with 15 guys under contract.

Why bother unless setting up for a move? Signing a 16th guy for circa $3m seems fairly superfluous at this point.

I would assume they're applying for it right now so they can get it approved and have in their back pockets as an "in case of emergency" situation if they have more injuries and need another body.

I think if they use the rest of the MLE, they'll be hard capped. This gives them cheat code and extra roster spot.

If Batum does become available, and that rumor is true, there you go. Torre Craig is now available, and I'd bring him on board.

Jerry “Ice” Reynolds and Bo Outlaw aren’t going to pay for themselves. We’re trying to have reunion here, people.

I doubt Torrey is coming here, he probably would want to go on a contender and get more playing time which he will not get that here

Good call. Emergency case for sure.

Why didn’t they do this before the free agent signing started. I feel it’s essentially going to be for nothing. Certainly not a difference maker at 3.6 million.

The point with Covid and short camp is to be prepared for replacing players. There was a lot of talk prior to season about teams wanting to carry more players due to the increased likelihood of Covid cases.

Craig just signed a deal with the Bucks, I told you that he is not coming here

It's not about the money. It's about the roster spot. Right now the Magic have 15 guaranteed contracts and can't sign anyone else.

So if the Browns were to suffer a couple of injuries at one position, hypothetically let's say MCW and Cole Anthony both roll their ankles and have to miss two weeks apiece at the same time. Without this DPE, the Magic wouldn't be able to sign someone to fill the spot.

Now they can as necessary.

Probably had to wait for the new league year to start; today.

Let's say 20 games in a starter goes down with a season-ending injury, this provides the basis to trade for a short-term replacement player. Given the Magic is quite certain to make the play-in playoffs, that makes this an insurance deal for the team.

Frankly if the team had not applied, that would have been more odd.

I am so happy fans do not contribute to GM decision.
