I honestly don’t know who they’d use it on and why.

Maybe we can use this to sign a PG?

Can the one we got for Issac and this be combined? Or did the first one expire? I personally think a vet point guard or someone to protect the paint would be good investments.

The Magic are only 2.8M under the luxury tax.
There's a zero percent chance they'll go over the tax on a team this far under .500.
The only way they'll use either one of their DPE's is if they make a trade that significantly decreases their salary commitment and keeps them far away from the tax.
Something like Gordon (18.1M) to Boston into their Hayward TPE and a couple of their rookie contract guys like Langford (3.6M) and Nesmith (3.4M) where the Magic shed 11M in one swoop.
If they did something like that, then they could make a second trade where acquire someone in the final year of their contract making up to 6M for nothing.
Unfortunately the list of players making more than the minimum, but less than 6.1M is pretty slim pickings.

These cannot be combined. But they can be part of "linked" trades. That is TPE #1 is used for trade-A but only if TPE #2 is also used for trade-B. The main limitation is that both trades individually must be acceptable on their own even if inseparable to completion.

I can only see a 6M TPE being used for a PG if there was also a rate that pared back salary. That would mean, for example, Aminu for a 4M a year player.

They mostly applied for this as a just in case or something to use after a Trade.
These next two months are mostly about the development of Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba and Chuma Okeke along with Trade Deadline speculation.

As long as Vuc and Clifford are here, that is not going to happen.

At worst, I think Mo Bamba will get backup center minutes.
