Can anyone knowledgeable about what this does to our cap space now and in the future expand on it?

Well, in the short term Otto Porter Jr.'s expiring $28 million should open up some cap room this summer, but we did take back $19-20 million/yr contract from Gary Harris, so unless we move him this summer our cap room will be ok, but not amazing IMO.

I think Orlando has something like 10M in Cap Space that's adding 2021 4th pick & say Bulls 16th pick + renouncing OPJ. Then we've got to re sign Isaac + Fultz to those deals already agreed upon. On top of that we have the TPE which we could use up to 17M. Will have to work up http://www.shamsports.com/capulator later when I get home

Harris offsets the savings from Gordon. We pick some space from Vuc trade but we were over. Harris might get moved as an expiring on draft night if he doesn’t revert back a couple years (to when he was a good shooter). Waiting for a Bobby Marks analysis...he’s always the best on cap/TPE implications and possible options

Throw in the Magic’s own first round pick (approximately 7M) and the Bulls first round pick (approximately 3M) and you’re at roughly 103.4M on 12 players.

That would give the Magic around $9M or so in salary cap space.

Summer of 2022 is when they’ll have much more significant cap space as Harris and MCW come off the books.

Get this new core playing well and that would be the year you would try and find a star free agent.

For trades, I absolutely agree.

As soon as this season ends, the Magic should call every NBA team and offer to take on a bad contract with the new 17.1M TPE they just got from the Fournier trade in exchange for getting the best draft pick in 2022 or later that a team is willing to part with.

That is almost certainly going to be the best use of that TPE. Taking on a bad contract from a team looking to create cap space in exchange for a draft pick or picks.

If Bacon is picked up, and I would think he will at a mere 1.8M, then we add the probable 2RP making the team, at a mere 0.9M.
With those two beyond your excellent list, that is 14 players. Orlando thus is only considering signing a single FA player. In that context, it is very hard to imaging resigning Porter. The good news for management, is if they fail to identify a FA, Orlando already could already have now its complete roster.



That would give the Magic around $9M or so in salary cap space.
So with Bacon and the 2RP, there would be about 6M available for the lone FA to be brought in.

Personally, I wouldn't retain Bacon as I don't think he's very good, but $1.8M is practically nothing for a bottom of the roster type of player. If Clifford sticks around, I'd imagine the odds of Bacon sticking around go up quite a bit.

There's is, of course, always the possibility of more trades. I figure Ross will have a lot of value around the draft.

Bacon has proven to me he is a good 3rd-string SG. As he already knows this system, I think it is fine to bring him back.

I guess it depends on how far away they think we are. I don't think we are ready next year, but the year after, I could be talked into that. Hopefully we can rehab Gary Harris's value next year, and move him for something. JI, one of the centers, our draft pick, hopefully Fultz, and a FA signing, I think we are back in the hunt for the playoffs as soon as 2022-23.
Point being I wouldn't eat bad long contracts.

I don't think is a full rebuild. More of a reset. The way I see it we now have a trajectory, the velocity will depend on the cumulative improvement of the all these players and this year's draft picks.

3rd string SGs are usually 2nd round picks or UDFAs, i mean if Clifford wants to keep Bacon around fine, but that is replacement level territory.

Spent some time this morning on capulator, we're over the cap for this upcoming year by about 7M with 13 rostered players (including the 2 1st round picks). We do have the full MLE of 9,535,000, maybe they sign OPJ to a 2 year deal 2nd year option?

21 is where things get really interesting and I'd even say on draft night this year. If WCJ shows that he is better than Bamba I could see this FO packaging Bamba + Bulls pick to possibly move up. That would also get them off his 20M Cap hold immediately while getting something for Bamba If he doesn't show any promise)

I have what Knightro has, can you show your work? I had the same thought with Bamba, package and upgrade.

Don’t forget we have a 17 mil TPE to effectively be a team with cap space, until we actually get serious cap space after next season.

I don't think there will be options available to move up into the top half of the lottery. There is still some time, but it seems to be generally accepted that there is a steep drop after the Top 5. I certainly don't see Bamba or taking on money being enough to get there...let's just pray to the ping pong ball Gods for 1 & 5.

I'm hoping next year, we can be the "third team" in a trade and end up with a 1st Rd pick or better from it.
