I *highly* doubt that. And if they are, it's because one of the rookies they drafted is way better than expected, or one of the young guys already here has improved a lot.

They are extremely likely to be bad/tanking next year regardless of who they end up picking IMO.

Unless Cunningham is secretly Doncic, one draft pick and Isaac isn't going to pull this team out of the lotto.
I disagree, Cade or Green and a healthy year for ALL of our players...In the East we likely make the playoffs. That is not saying much and that is best case scenario as health has been a big issue.

An injury or two and we are at the bottom again.

Those guys played the bulk of the minutes tonight and still managed to win. Mo and Randle were net negatives, too.

We just met a team who’s also tanking but their talent is even worse than our 2nd unit.

You know who's even worse? Donta Hall and Karim Mane. They should have been playing. The FO F'ed up.

Yeah, me too. The last couple lotto picks we had, I had a feeling we’d get lucky and win - but we didn’t. This time I don’t have that feeling, so I’m hoping it means we’re due a win. Haha.

Annnnnnnnd your point is? Still a good game. I'm looking for minutes and upward trajectory. Not saying that he's a star all of a sudden. He's looking more loose and comfortable... While still making right decisions. Now we get to see how he does down the stretch. I hope he gets tons of minutes.

Bruh I'm sorry but if you in a situation where those 4 guys are having good games than you are in an unloseable situation. We're looking at literally the worst players on the roster outside of Hampton playing 20 minutes straight for no reason.
I agree, we won this game on those performances. Randle and the new guy imo, if they don't have the games they had, I think we'd lose this one. But they did. Oh well, this is why a cushion was important, Det is just worse than us and was a tough ask for the team.

Except they’re not worse than us, they’re just better at tanking. Half-assed tanks doesn’t work, we should’ve committed to the tank when we traded our best players away. Detroit is pretty much resting/IR almost all of their key players…..when you’re up against that against what we’re doing it’s just not same kind of tank.

With us it’s unfortunate or fortunate depending on who you ask….it’s two fold, our front office signing highly motivated 10 days instead of keeping the ones that were sucking for us just fine in franks and hall….and of course you have Corbin who may be auditioning for a head coaching position at some point, not that he would want to lose anyway….it’s the perfect storm

Now I’m guessing it’s not going to be long before Cleveland and OKC leapfrogs us as well…it is what it is

I don't think people realize how the new lottery odds work when it pertains to the top picks. If we think everybody after top 5 is trash, finishing 3-6 shouldn't really matter besides the floor of where we can drop. What I'm trying to say is that we are still very much in the mix for a top pick, our floor is just lower.

If we're concerned about dropping past number 5, well, every team is besides the Rockets. If that is our main worry, we should've been the worst team.

Even if we finished at 2nd (current Pistons), the most probable odds are 5th and 6th pick at 28 and 20% respectively.

The first place Houston Rockets have a 51% chance to get a top four pick.

The (currently) fifth place Orlando Magic have a 44% chance to get a top four pick.

Yeah, it helps to get those extra percentages, but people are acting like we have a 5% chance to get a top pick or something. Like I said, it's just that the more probable percentages are in the 6th-7th picks, but our CHANCE at a top pick is still good.

i don't think this fact is lost on people my guy....people just prefer not needed as much luck if you can help it....and in case we can more or less control or try to control our own destiny at least this season but the FO isn't committed to it as tanking pretty much is controlled by them.

You don't completely tank for odds at the top pick. You tank for the floor (worst possible pick), and the floor has just fallen out from underneath us. If we end up picking 8th or so this season, it feels like this was all for nothing.

Some of y'all are in for a seriously rude awakening next year when this team only wins like 30 games.

This is absolutely not a playoff roster unless their top pick is way better than expected.

Your statistical analysis is terrible. I respect you as a poster but the way you're justifying the math is just... silly...

You're basically saying that all you need is one lotto ticket because only one number wins. You can't just casually say, sure it would be nice to have 80% of all the possible outcomes, but only one wins so I'm okay with my 1% chance.

More to your point, this is a 5 player draft. Again, we just dropped from an 80% chance of landing a top 5 pick, to a 47% chance in less than a week. If we drop below Cleveland, it drops to 37%.

Kuminga (likely), Suggs, or Green will be available at 5. The rest of the players are uninspiring.

This tank should have nothing to do with landing the #1 pick because the odds have changed as you mentioned but you have to look at the entire picture (percentages, the players available, etc) to know where you want to land for optimal odds to improve the team quickly.

So when the Magic pick 8th and the Bulls keep their pick, do you think the Magic will be in Seattle or Vegas for next year?

i don't think it's a playoff roster either however in the east i think we'll be in that play-in area 10th through 8 seed i believe? with everyone healthy and with clifford trying to squeeze juice from a stone i don't think we'll be anywhere near as bad as we are this season....

Agree to disagree I suppose.

They're almost certainly going to be even younger next year when Ennis, Porter, Randle and possibly Bacon and Ross all depart and are replaced by two lotto picks and other non-veterans.

Young players typically aren't good.

Return to Orlando Magic
