SGA?

This is merely just an exercise to see where everyone's mind is at. There's a lengthy Magic Twitter debate going on right now on this very subject.

We wont argue whether SGA is available or not, the premise is that OKC does not want to pay SGA the max and is quietly shopping him. They will only trade him for a kings ransom though and try to trade up for Cade.

This is what OKC is demanding in return (we're not debating if this is his actual value or not).

#5
#8
'23 FRP (via Chicago - top 4 protected)
'25 FRP (via Denver - top 5 protected)
Cole Anthony

SGA is only 22 yrs. old and just averaged 25/5/6 on 50/40/80 splits.

Only caveat is he is up for a max extension which he will get.

Would you make this trade if it was offered to us on draft night?

no. only because he wont stay and we wont have any picks to surround him with talent. the most we would get, he signs extension and then immediately demands a trade out because we cant win. in this draft, i truly believe we can get 2 cornerstones of the team for the future. If we could keep #8 then i would consider it.

but that stat line is bumped because OKC was horrible with zero options on that team. not saying he wasnt efficient, but he had a lot of volume because no one else could score. we truly dont know if he makes a team better or not. i believe he can and will, I just dont know.

He only played 35 games last year.. While I think he is a good player, I dont think he could hold those numbers for a full season. I definitely wouldnt offer that much for him.

Take out the 8th pick and cole and I'm in
Include another future pick instead of 8 and include anyone but Cole and RJ

I picked the Green option but only because I thought this was just a bit too much to ask.

I'd at least want to take #8 or Cole out of the OP. We don't really have any bad money on the books to dump, so his upcoming max will be a big blow to our flexibility, but...SGA is a bad young man!

If they sent the #16 and #18 picks back in return I’d have to consider it.

Draft Tre Mann/Dosunmu/Josh Christopher + JT Thor.

Bamba/WCJ
Isaac/Thor/MoWag
Okeke/Ross
SGA/RJ/Harris
(Mann/Dosunmu)/Cole/Fultz

We’d be bad enough year 1 to still land a high pick, then get 4 years of SGA + the new names to try get competitive quickly. With the new lotto rules, we’d still be in the running for a high lotto picks even as we try to climb our way back into play in games.

Move some of the other players to balance the roster out as needed, and in the East we could be knocking on the door to the playoffs in 2-3 seasons. Maybe sooner if another star emerges next to SGA.

We aren't ready to compete for the chip. SGA would get frustrated with us.

You had me at "Green for less". I will call that a minus-Anthony package of #5, #8, '23 FRP (via Chicago - top 4 protected), and '25 FRP (via Denver - top 5 protected). For Green, yes 100X I am for that trade.
