Assuming the top 4 goes as currently projected and we make no trades, the Magic are likely left with who they prefer between Jonathan Kuminga and Scottie Barnes.

Since neither seem to be a natural shooter, I'm going with Barnes who has the better IQ and is a better defender, ball-handler and playmaker. I'm also a fan of his high intensity style.

I propably go with neither at #5. Between two of them i prefer Barnes becouse he at least have skills that can transfer to nba.

If we assume Issac comes back and plays power forward and doesn't break himself again...

Kuminga. Barnes' highest FGA game was 13 where he went 30% from the field. Does not have the volume I want in this draft. I want a player that is able and willing to get off shot attempts. Seems like another JI and I am done with the redundancy. Kuminga had 8 games with 13 or more FGAs and was shooting decent. He's my choice.

i dont like either. but if i have to take 1 its Barnes.

Barnes can effectively play even if he doesnt learn to shoot better.

Kuminga has to improve every single facet of his game, something that doesnt trend well

I actually disagree with you when you say neither is a natural shooter. Barnes definitely is not, but I would argue Kuminga is. His shot actually looks good, he just didn't make a high percentage of them.

What Kuminga does have is the ability to create his own shot. I would argue that is a more important skill for the Magic to find than actually shooting a high percentage. Like I said, his shot actually looks good mechanically and I would imagine his percentages should improve. Kuminga is also going to be a beast getting to the line which is another thing the Magic have lacked for years.

I can see Kuminga putting it together as a scorer just by putting in the work, but I think Barnes is the "better" player. Kuminga may turn into the scorer we need but it's a risky pick, Barnes will have a lower floor but does a lot of good things out there. Barnes is risky too just because he has a lot of similar skillsets of guys we already have (with better court vision), but this roster won't be the same in a few years.

They only get one free throw in the G league, the second usually .50 higher. Plus he was just a couple months older than 18. If you look back at some of the high schoolers that came into the league, they shot much worse than him. Check out Rashard's first year, he was 19 and a worse shooter than Kuminga.

I'm going to go with Kuminga, because I feel like he'll become a dominant scorer. He's too smooth and he ambidextrous like many of the other great players.

That seems like a bad excuse for a poor free throw %. If you are a good shooter...you usually make free throws.

He seems like Rudy Gay or Andrew Wiggins at best based on the natural way he plays. I could be wrong but like I said any potential is good for this team, I'm not going to be mad come draft time...even if they pick neither of these guys.

That seems like a bad excuse for a poor free throw %. If you are a good shooter...you usually make free throws.

As far as being a potentially elite scorer? I think Kuminga has the ability to get to the next level if he focuses on it, because he does have that scoring mindset even though he's not efficient at all, while I think Barnes would be more of an Isaac level scorer, which in my eyes Isaac at his best is a solid scorer, but not a go to guy. I think Kuminga has the ability to be more of a threat there.

I don't think Barnes can get to the same level, no, but he also has a lot of skills that I don't think come natural to Kuminga.. which is why there's so much debate. Neither are a lock to become anything great on offense while Barnes is showing a lot defensively/with his passing already.

Which of the 2 are known as gym rats? As someone said.. if your "top" guys ( if you are our highest pick you can be considered that next season ) are always in the gym putting in the work, you can bet our #8, #33 and the rest can't half-a$$ it if they see that. That's why despite some of you down on MCW, im always rooting for him especially as a vet on our team cuz he puts in the work as an exampe to our young guys.

Barnes and it's really not close.

Barnes has 1 glaring weakness and several clearly defined strengths. Kuminga has like 6 glaring weaknesses, including the same one Barnes has, and no tangible strengths outside of his body.

That said, I won't agree with it, but I will at least understand the thought process if Kuminga is the pick at 5.

Neither, and it is not even close. Frankly the choice depresses me.

Trade up to #3 or trade down to #7. I take either of those over Jonathan Kuminga vs Scottie Barnes.
