Bouknight at 5, Kuminga or Barnes at 8

Post#1 » by MagicFanCincy » Thu Jul 15, 2021 12:59 am

If we think Kuminga-Barnes is virtually a toss-up, take Bouknight at 5 and whichever is left between Kuminga and Barnes at 8.

The reasoning?

If the Warriors keep the 7th pick, they'll probably take Bouknight (although Davion Mitchell and Corey Kispert are possibilities). But they won't take Barnes since he essentially duplicates Draymond Green, and you'd expect the Thunder to take Kuminga.

5. Magic - Bouknight
6. Thunder - Kuminga
7. Warriors - Mithcell or Kispert
8. Magic - Barnes

Better than:

5. Magic - Kuminga
6. Thunder - Barnes
7. Warriors - Bouknight
8. Magic - Mitchell, Kispert, Moses Moody, or Keon Johnson

Thoughts?

Yep Bouknight I think is going to the Thunder at 6 or Warriors at 7, Unless we grab him at 5. Kuminga won't be available at 8 but I think Barnes might be. We will be able to get Barnes or Moody at 8.

Assuming no trades this is probably best scenario.

Someone explain the Bouknight thing to me. The Big East was total trash last year and most of their opponents were... below average to be nice. He only played 2 ranked teams. He shot 29% college 3 (5 attempts a game... yeesh), 44% from the field, and had an embarrassing AST/TO ratio for a 2nd year player.

I don't get the Bouknight love on this board. He is not a top 6 player in this draft. Also, in this scenario, it's unlikely either Barnes or Kuminga makes it to #8. I like him fine at #8, but I wouldn't be looking at him with the #5.

I have no explanation.

He's like the 15th-20th best guy in the draft that people have inexplicably talked themselves into thinking he's the next Devin Booker.

I don't get it at all. An older sophomore who was an inefficient one dimensional scorer. I just don't see what a lot of others appear to see.

Trade the **** up for Green. Dont be cheap. Offer 5,8, Den 1st, chi 1st and WCJ. Go big or go home!

The fact The Magic pick at #5 and then again at #8 is something they have to really think about.

I think the Big 4 (Cunningham, Green, Mobley, Suggs) go in some order.

If one dropped, I'd take them.

Assuming that Top-4 stays the same, I think you got to take whom you feel the best player is and the one The Magic want the most.

OKC at 6 and GSW could always make a trade or a surprise pick.

We will all be playing out scenarios. It is tempting to take a chance that Barnes or Kuminga would be there at #8 but if one of them is your guy, you should take them.

It's fun to try and predict but the Draft is unpredictable.

But he's a bucket. He's the equivalent of last year's Nesmith infatuation, like a shooter(only) was the piece that was going to push us over the top.

had elbow surgery mid-season which affected his %'s. he is a legit 3 level scorer. does he have his warts? absolutely. he could definitely pass more, seemed to have severe tunnel vision. that can be coached out though. he was routinely facing double and triple teams, his job was to be the complete offensive engine for that team. same size as Green and has enough athleticism for an NBA SG.

I think it is much more likely that his 34% shooting as a freshman was a fluke seeing as he was shooting them way less.

He was shooting ~31 before the injury...

If I had to pick today, I'm taking Barnes or Kuminga at #5.

Then, there will be two players that come off the board.

One of those players will likely be the player The Magic don't take of Kuminga and Barnes.

This would mean one more player would come off the board unless OKC and GSW or teams that trade for 6 or 7 pass on the one The Magic don't take.

The scenarios and calculations.

The Bouknight thing seems fairly obvious to me. Especially while watching a 3 level scorer like Booker light up a defensively elite team like the Bucks tonight in a finals game.

There is obviously no guarantee that he will be Booker, but the lottery is for taking shots on skillsets/players and developing them. I'm not hung up on the 3pt% for a variety of reasons. Mainly being the elbow injury and the fact that he shot a good% from the line. I think this finals series is the perfect example of why you need a 3 level scorer like Booker/Middelton.

We have nobody remotely close to either. If you think he can be that, take him off the board at 5.
