Draft is over… What moves are next for the off-season?

Post#1 » by djguevara114 » Fri Jul 30, 2021 8:11 pm

Maybe I missed it, but haven’t seen a thread talking about what’s next…

I think the FO has actually done a great job surrounding these young players with high quality vets… Feel like Harris and Ross are great for our SGs and SFs, but think they need a quality vet at PG to help squelch the sure to come conflict with competing playing time—and a quality big.

Sign Myers Leonard?
Would love the team to bring on Isaiah Thomas if he would come in that roll as a end off bench guy.
I would imagine were bringing back Mo Wagner now lol

Bamba/WCJ/Leonard
Isaac/Okeke/M. Wagner
F. Wagner/Ross
Harris/Hampton/MCW
Suggs/Anthony/Thomas

Hard pass on Leonard lol. Also IT? I’m good. We will most likely sign back Wagner who I’m fine with for depth. I wouldn’t mind a guy like Taj Gibson a veteran big presence (but don’t want him taking too many minutes at the same time). Also, I would try to sign back OPJ. Feel like we could trade him later on. Not a fan but would assume MCW would come back to provide depth at the 1-3.

3rd center is probably #1 need, needs to be someone ok with that role. Maybe Dedmon?
Then a true SF, I like OPJ in theory, but he'll be looking to get his next contract, I don't see that as a good thing.
Maybe someone like Bazmore or Bullock?? along those lines, a 30 y.o. good pro. May have to over pay a bit, like $4-5M on a 1 year, but we can do that.

-I also like Mo Wagner as our 3rd 4/5. He brings a different element than the other bigs and, obviously, has a lead on a good roommate.
-I keep MCW. He's a heck of a chaos guy off of the bench at multiple spots. He's cheap, he's tough, and from all accounts, he's a good teammate and accepts his role and his fate among the kids. That's not something to take for granted.
-I hadn't really thought of re-signing OPJ. He'd have to take a huge haircut and also understand he's not the future. On the other hand, he's not so old that he can't contribute and his skillset is needed on any NBA team (good size/versatile/legit 3 & D). I don't really know his mentality and I wouldn't hold it against him if his ego wasn't down for a rebuild/mentor role. Sign and trade is an option as well.

Nothing too intriguing in the free agent lists. Perhaps we stand pat for a year and see what we have, preserve and even increase our financial flexibility. If we can't sign Mo Wagner back, maybe a guy like Robin Lopez would be satisfied to keep the locker room light, provide quality vet minutes and guidance, etc...not sure if he's ready to accept that role yet either.

this is nice...we've got a lot of hopes on our roster, TPE, some cap space and more on the way, and a lot of chips in our pocket for a change.

Bring back Ennis for injury insurance (even though he isn't iron man himself). 6'7, solid vet defender and shot 43% from 3 for us last season. Sign Mo Wagner as a 3rd big.

Trade Ross or Harris for a future 1st and a bad contract.

Ennis said he like the Magic's picks on Instagram. So it sounds like he anticipates being here.

Not much to do but get healthy and see how the pieces grow.

Bamba/WCJ
Isaac/Fragner/Wagner
Okeke/Ross
Fultz/RJ/Harris
Suggs/Cole/MCW

Isaac and Fultz returning healthy is the next big move, then seeing what they can give us, and how well Fultz can fit with Suggs, or if RJ overtakes him in the depth chart sooner rather than later.

Maybe move some of the veterans if they aren’t happy being deep bench guys.

I agree with resigning Mo or any 3rd-string PF/C. With the emphasis on PF. Admit it, JI is still recovering and Okeke a little short and Franz a little thin for the PF role.

I think any back-up PF/C would relish their chances with us knowing mo/wcj/JI aren't ironmen. It could be a proving ground for them.

Trade Ross/Harris to playoff team for some asset. Sign Mo let him develop with his brother.

I would explore a Ross trade because I just don't think he's the kind of player you want on a team where winning isn't a priority.

We need 2-3 more guards...jk I'm good with just resigning Mo. In my dream world we sign Thanasis since we need SF help then his brother Giannis gets tired of snow and come with a few seasons later to guide us to a few championships.

I am trying to wrap my head around the rotation and minutes. If Fultz is ready day 1 + it looks like JI will be we have a log jam at a few positions which is a good problem. The talent will rise hopefully. My initial thoughts. Obviously they will experiment and may have Cole and Suggs together etc..

Opening Night if Fultz is not ready:

PG- Suggs 28, Cole 20
SG- Harris 30, RJ 18
SF- Ross 24, Wagner 18, Chuma 6
PF- JI 32, Chuma 16
C- WCJ 28, Bamba 20

When Fultz is back I have no idea what they do... I am almost sure one of Gary Harris or Terrance Ross is gone before deadline to give Fultz and RJ more time.

If Harris gets 30 minutes and RJ gets 18, Jeff hired the wrong coach for his goals. I know you mentioned a trade to free up more space but I can't see RJ only get 18mpg after the way he finished the year.

Yeah. You are probably right. RJ will get more time and deserves it.

If I were the GM, i'd sign Mo Wagner back as our backup C.

We have Boston's 17M TPE. I am wondering how are we going to use it.

We have just 7 or 8M in Salary Cap. I am thinking who we'd sign.

I think we need to play our best with our young rotation. That is how we player development.

Is next year's Draft a deep draft?

I’m hoping for Ross and Harris to be traded. I love T-Ross but I think he’s more useful for a playoff team. I didn’t see much out of Harris that makes me anxious to keep him. He just keeps minutes that should go to RJ Hampton.

I’d love to see the Magic resign Moritz Wagner for our center spot. I honestly don’t think all that much of Carter and Bamba, and Wagner was pretty good for the Magic last winter after he was brought in.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I would start by trading Ross for a 1st.
Resign Mo Wagner 2 /6mil with to
Resign Porter to either a large 1 yr 16 or a value with declining salary 12/11/10. He brings leadership, def and most of all shooting to help open the floor.

Start/Bench
Suggs/Anthony/MCW
Fultz/Hampton/Harris
Porter/Wagner
Isaac/Okeke
Carter/Bamba/M.Wagner
Harris gets the start until Fultz regains form. Then we either cut his mins or buy him out.a

What next? Give em plenty of sun and water regularly.
