12 TO 1 PODCAST (KNIGHTRO & SOUL): Episode 2 - Post Draft Thoughts & Future Lineup Predictions

Hey dudes, new podcast out! I mentioned it in the pod but thanks so much for actually checking it out and for the support. Me and Knightro thought we'd only get like 5 replies or something just doing this for fun but hearing people enjoy it is really nice to see. Unfortunately we couldn't get Ben on this episode because of some audio issues but we're going to get him on hopefully during the middle of summer league games but it'll be better because it can be more personalized since we'll only have summer league stuff going on. Also if you guys want to follow the Soundcloud if you have an account that helps! How? idk but it's just nice to see the support
If you guys have any questions for Bensational, please post a few (serious and non-serious alike, I'll pick the best ones if people have any!)

alright.. i kinda disgaree with the "weeks beforr this was a 4 person draft "
it only became a 4 person draft agter the lotto when wr got the 5th pick. Seriously, after Suggs team failed to do the historic 40-0 in the finals, it was still a 5 person draft.
Other than that.. it was ok. You can admit it SOUL, the reason Ben didn't join because he is a regular alreadynin tje Gidd.. i mean OKC board

I had to ban him for a week
Talent wise I def don't think Knightro or even me thought that (I hate calling things top "x" drafts) - but definitely the board consensus and even from a lot of guys who made mock drafts had it Cade/Green/Mobley/Suggs with Kuminga and Barnes trailing them in terms of top end talent going into the draft. The true top players will be very different, but in terms of how prospects are rated going into their rookie years, I can't disagree with there being that cutoff point. None of that means anything b/c they have to go out and prove it.
A guy like Bagley was definitely a top prospect more so than Trae but their careers turned out vastly different so it's not always the right names, Beasley as well, Wiggins, etc.

I see our good friends SOUL and Knightro ducked having godking Pepe on.
You should contact the Magic ORG and see if we can get that loser Dante Markatelli fired and you guys could take his time on Drive Time on 740.
Question for Ben: Who is your favorite X-men and why is it Cyclops?

To be fair, the NBA draft lottery was five weeks ago
And obviously like SOUL said, neither of us thought it was a 4 person draft, especially not me since I was ready to snap up Barnes had he been there. But the general consensus out there from prognosticators is that it was.
And Kuminga was the commonly accepted 5th player until around the combine. Barnes was the guy who seemed to rise most late in the process of the top guys.

If the same dude is mocked 5th by everyone, then it isn't a 5-player draft. That guy obviously isn't in the same category as the other 4.

If that's the case why not call it a 3 player draft cuz everyone mocked ( except me lol) Suggs as 4th.

The way the draft fell, I think we got 2 win now players. Both I think can make winning contributions this season. I'm just not as confident that they'll completely tank the year had they taken, Barnes, Kuminga, or Ziaire.

Also, I mightve missed it BUT did the topix if Zaire come up? I mean what was all that smoke about? What was the endgame?

Because not everyone did. The highest I saw Suggs mocked was 2nd, but he was all around two to four. Did anyone have Kuminga above 5?
I reject the notion of an n-player draft because distributions don't take the forms of staircases. It comes from this idea of tiers, but tiers are of very limited use and not really meaningful when you are mocking players. It's a tool for teams to consider the relative value of draft positions for the purposes of trades.
What a disagree with in your argument, however, is this idea that it suddenly became a 4-player draft because we ended up with the 5th pick. Pundits were calling it a 5-player draft before the season began, but that was walked back well before the lottery because Kuminga just flat out sucked in the G League. The incredulity around here was not the product of some "woe is me" phenomenon. It was because the shine on Kuminga's prospect status had already dulled considerably.

For you the shine on Kuminga fell off but not for me and others. So its subjective. Thus, I still say he maintained what he needed to to stay in that group. Unlike say J.Johnson and Zaire who clearly fell off their next tier at 6-10.

Are analyst from ESPN and other networks Magic fans? They literally started the night by calling it a draft where the top 4 (not the top 5 or 6) would be considered for the #1 pick in nearly every other draft over the last decade and a half. Now, does that mean that they’ll all pan out? No but that’s not the point.

So many players, though they come back earlier, take a full 2 years to really look themselves again after an ACL injury. I think Isaac could take a step forward offensively this year, but we will just have to monitor where he is at mentally and physically when he does come back.
I'd be a little shocked if he picked right back up where he left his game during the 2019-2020 season. I'd expect some timidness on the offensive end.
I think up until the trade deadline Ross will be our leading scorer as well. Hopefully, we can inflate his value a bit && move him to a playoff-contending team for a decent package.

Again, another great Modcast.
Im glad SOUL talked about expectations with Suggs. Anyone expecting him to suit up and average 25ppg off the bat are going to be disappointed. I think he can get there eventually, but he’s going to adjust like everyone else to the pace and physicality of the league.
I believe in this group of young players more than I did with Oladipo, Evan, and EP.
I’m fully expecting a lineup of Suggs, RJ, and Wagner to become a very solid core of the future.

Ennis is at the Magic facility practicing right now, so he probably got word we're resigning him.

Totally. He will eventually score 18/20 PPG but he's much more than a scorer.
I also want to finish next season with Suggs, RJ and Wagner as starters.
The flashes that RJ Hamton showed at the end of last season were amazing. He got me in a second.
The guy is hunger. And we desperately need those characters on our team.

Looks like the shine fell off for OKC too… Giddey going top 6 and picked over Kuminga, who’d have thought?

Well unlike your boy going to draft pick capital.. which I fully expect him to be the next victim ( I kid I kid ).. THE CHAMPION team GSW agreed with me on Kuminga. They ( think it was Kerr and Lacob ) that said they had him at 5 and thought OKC was going to jump on him when we didn't pick him. They thought OKC was crazy and thus took Kuminga

The same champions who didn’t make the playoffs last season and were 2nd last in the league the year before? Same ones who picked Wiseman over Ball and Haliburton? Sounds like they were drafting off mock draft hype instead of game. Me and Henny will enjoy watching Giddey build a dynasty in OKC alongside Mann and SGA, only to be rivalled by the the Houston Sengun-Garuba-Christopher-Green big 4, and the Suggs-lead dynasty of course.
