Pod Squad interview with John Hammond

Here's a link: https://youtu.be/psl82OrIFmk

I haven't finished it yet, but it's a pretty good interview so far. I disagree with the way he framed the Mo vs. WCJ situation, but Hammond seems to be as open with all questions as he can be and the boys are asking good questions. He shows some major love for Markelle. Worth a listen for sure.

Good find. Here are things that stood out to me.

-Hammond on Mosley: Really likes Mosley's positivity and his ability to keep things simple for the young guys. They expect Mosley to grow and develop just like the players will grow and develop.

-Hammond on Wagner: A guy who makes the right play all the time. Makes the right pass, doesn't force things. Defensively he's solid and smart. His true growth is going to be simple, as he shoots the 3 better, he's going to be a better player. He has a great base to work from. Mentions Franz as a long-term 3 and Isaac as a long-term 4.

-Hammond on Suggs: There are a lot of guys who step into the NBA and can score, can handle, can shoot. But most young guys have a hard time defensively. Suggs defensively has a chance to be really special. They believe he lock in on PGs and SGs and even some SFs. Offensively he's going to get better and better. They're going to put the ball in his hands and that's where it should be. Really excited to put Suggs and Fultz in the backcourt together. Both strong guys who can handle and make teammates better.

-Hammond on Fultz: He is chomping at the bit to play. When someone goes through tough times, you find out exactly who they are. Markelle is a special person. He's a pleaser. You can see it in how he deals with his teammates, his coaches, the medical staff. Hammond wants this to work out for him so badly. He was the No. 1 pick for a reason. Hammond just wants him to get back to being that guy.

-Hammond on the Carter/Bamba pairing: Not planned by the front office. It was something Mosley wanted to try. It could continue, it could not. Carter is a really good interior defender. Bamba is a great and potentially elite shot blocker, but not really a great defender. Is Mo a good enough interior defender? Do you want Carter defending in space too much? Once Isaac is healthy, he's most likely going to be the starting PF, but for now this is the time to experiment. Hammond seemed pretty skeptical on the Carter/Bamba pairing IMO.

-Hammond on a potential Isaac/Carter/Bamba frontcourt: Hammond says Isaac can guard 3-4-5, but Isaac is getting bigger and taller and his body is filling out. Hammond seemed skeptical that Isaac will be able to play a lot of SF as he gets continues to get bigger a mature physically.

He wasn't specifically asked about them, but Hammond never mentioned Anthony, Hampton or Okeke. He brought up Isaac and Fultz unprompted more than a few times.

I hope Bamba continues to improve. A lineup of Franz, Isaac and Bamba would be really unicornish haha

i think Suggs would have the strength to defend SF's but i think he is too small and not long enough

I could be reading too much into it, but it sounded to me like Hammond was higher on Carter than Bamba.

It could've been part of negotiations on an extension.

If Bamba signs, Hammond will say Bamba is a cross between Russell and Wilt.
