Josh Robbins Leaving the Magic Beat to Cover the Wizards

Post#1 » by Def Swami » Wed Oct 27, 2021 4:25 pm

The GOAT Orlando Magic beat writer in my eyes. We'll miss his coverage. Completely impartial and objective, and always informative. One of the few I could trust to ask the questions the fans wanted asked. A true professional. DC gets a good one. I'm happy he's able to go home and carry out a dream.

I think i am more disappointed by this news than the Fultz or Isaac injuries in recent years.

We will be left to get our team coverage from whatever Jeff Weltman and Coach Mosley say at the press conferences. Always thought Josh was the one positive in the Orlando Magic coverage. I hope the Athletic finds someone equally passionate about the profession and connected around the league.

He'll be missed. Seems like a real good dude and wasn't afraid to ask some of the tough questions we as fans wanted to hear. Hopefully we can replace him with less of the Dante Marchitelli (rah rah everything about the Magic is GREAT!) types and someone who will ask some "tough" questions.

Never thought he was anything special tbh. Not that he lacked anything, either way I wish him the best.

It’s going to be impossible to replace him. He’s a great person, too.

Always liked how asked direct, tough questions, where others pretty much serve as a$$ kissers to whoever is there, Gms, coaches or players.

He was direct, asked the tough questions but still very fair and supportive...Just right. That's a rare combo these days - most are shills for their organization or "shock jocks" like Bianchi looking for the "gotcha" clickbait that's low-hanging fruit that rarely requires any knowledge or true interest in the franchise (Bianchi was doing clickbait before the internet). Robbins will be missed.

I really liked Denton before he was getting paid by the Magic, Josh was higher up on the list than him.
Since his move to TheAthletic, Josh's game really improved.
Don't need anything too great, it was just nice to get informed opinions on our local team.

I hope Keith goes after the job, I'd like to see what he could do.

This definitely sucks. Wish him the best moving forward.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t fill his position at the Athletic. They’ll just use pool reporters to write the occasional Magic story every couple of months (if that). I doubt they feel like Magic fans made up a large amount of their subscribers so they likely won’t want to pay a full time beat reporter to replace him.

Not sure who will be worth reading now…..

The Sentinel hasn’t really had great coverage of the team since, well, Josh Robbins.

This is sad. How will find out the starting lineups anymore?

The Athletic is circling the drain honestly, theyve burned 100 mil in the last 2 years, if they dont do something soon or find a buyer I dont see them being around in 2 years.

You may be right, but it would be a shame, they have the best writers.

Good for Josh, and of course condolences, prayers and healing to him, his family, and loved ones after losing his Dad
