York is 28 and to the best of my knowledge has never played in an NBA game.

Congrats to him. This is probably a dream come true for him. I hope he enjoys it.

I predict that 40 years from now there will be a massive spike in the number of old men telling their grandkids that once upon a time they played in the NBA.

The next era of the NBA will be sourcing healthy fans as fill-ins. Half-time half court shots will actually be scouting opportunities. If you can stand in a queue for a rapid antigen test you can stand on a court.

And-1

It's only December, and the NBA has already broken the record for players in a season.

NBA record: cbs LINK

This season could easily see >>600 total players getting minutes, That's insane as usually one expects 450-480 players.

As the below image of Mr. York does not scream "NBA level basketball player", I looked up some stats.

Looks like he has a capable 3-ball. So perhaps he is there as a "3rd"-string PG. That's in quotes as he looks more like a player in The Basketball Tournament; more than an NBA baller.

Right...it's like a baby boom after a war

I'm waiting for the wave of celebrity 12th men, like Kevin Hart or William Shatner. If they can stand in for astronauts, they can certainly replace Gabe York for a game.

I would honestly be more interested in something like that, or watching Drake and Kanye try to play vs half a season of G-Leaguers. If it’s gonna be a half-arsed version of the league then let’s just make it a circus.
